APS, Fulton, DeKalb schools also closed.

All my co-workers from Cobb got the call – no school Tuesday and Wed.

They also have a Feb break like ours, but it was set up like a long weekend.
They were already planning on having Thursday/Friday/Monday off. So, this just made it a full week vacation.

Just got the code red call from the county. It is now too late to go to the store to buy food. Everyone else will get there first.

Agnes Scott College is closed! First time I remember them calling it before CSD.

Just head Georgia State is closed tomorrow. They’re usually slow to close.

Ga State works for the Governor. He will not get blamed for not being ready again

I was referring to Georgia State University.

            February 10, 2014 at 4:52 pm

Well, it sort of works for the Governor too, no?

            • brianc says:
              February 10, 2014 at 4:56 pm

Yeah, I guess that’s true to an extent since he appoints the state board of regents for public colleges.

    7. Cali says:

I like the wait and see approach, especially with all the projected temps to be around or above freezing. Which means there’s a decent chance it’s all gonna melt as soon as it hits the ground. So, see what road conditions are like at 5 or 6 am and what the current forecast says, then decide.

Our last weather has everyone making panicky decisions. Many places even closed early TODAY.

      • brianc says:
        February 10, 2014 at 5:06 pm

It would actually probably make more sense to take a wait and see approach for tomorrow, but go ahead and close Wed. and Thursday, as the forecast is pretty definite for a potentially dangerous ice storm Wed, and temps well below freezing through Thursday morning.

        • Cali says:
          February 11, 2014 at 9:22 am

Agreed. Weather forecasts are remarkably handy in situations like this. Now here it is Tuesday and we’re closed for rain.

      • DEM says:
        February 10, 2014 at 5:07 pm

Except that’s what they did last time, and it turned into a complete debacle when kids and teachers and everyone else got stranded on the roads. They won’t risk that again.

        • Cali says:
          February 11, 2014 at 9:19 am

Well, exactly. Because everyone ignored the weather reports for the Snowpocalypse, now they’re making panicky decisions if they see the word “snow.” In both cases, weather reports would tell you all you need to know. Temps above freezing mean road conditions are fine.

          • nelliebelle1197 says:
            February 11, 2014 at 9:31 am

Except they want to keep people home and off the road so the situation doesn’t repeat itself.

            • Cali says:
              February 11, 2014 at 9:46 am

Temps are projected to be above freezing at least until midnight. For those of us in Decatur that should leave plenty of time to get home and off the roads.

          • At Home in Decatur says:
            February 11, 2014 at 9:36 am

I have decided that it’s not snow or ice that creates the disaster here. It’s the traffic. You can have chains on your vehicle, snow tires, four wheel drive whatever and it doesn’t matter because the road is clogged with traffic. I was stuck overnight on a southern highway during the snowstorm of ’93 and it wasn’t the snow that was a problem–I had chains (still left from the West) and could drive fine. But the highway was blocked by a traffic jam. The only good thing about being prepared was that I was warm and had food. Many folks were in tee shirts and miserable.

Decatur Recreation Center is open today. We may close early if the snow or ice move in. Come on over and shoot some hoops or walkt he track. Classes and practices are cancelled however.

My kids home today with long homework assignments and some expectations to check teacher websites and turn work in etc.

RMS teachers said not to expect change deadlines.

I looks unclear to me that we need to cancel Tuesday. But Wednesday looks pretty darn certain.

Glenn Burns just predicted that we will be iced til Saturday. Great. My office is closed (we follow the APS closures) but I think I will take the kids in with me in for fun times in the office (and hanging with my boss, who loves them!) along with the workbooks I use to keep up with school when we travel. We get vacation days for working on snow days hahahahaha!

Looks like the rest of the week is done for. With ice storms like they’re predicting it takes quite a while for things to get back to normal.

Does anyone know if DeKalb County will be picking up trash in the morning?

      • Alison W. says:
        February 10, 2014 at 8:55 pm

No DeKalb Sanitation on Tuesday. Interim CEO Lee May started shutting down county operations today at 4:30–only public safety, public works employees, etc will be working Tuesday, they want to keep roads clear of as many people as possible.

All DeKalb County Public Library branches will be closed Tuesday.

    17. Kris Webb says:
      February 10, 2014 at 7:28 pm

Well, who knows exactly what will happen but it looks like tomorrow is our best chance for better road conditions since the temperature is expected to be above freezing. Here’s your chance to get some work done!

IF road conditions allow, The Science of Fun will have a STEM (science technology engineering mathematics) Camp tomorrow (Tuesday) from 10:00-3:00. Ages 5-13, $69

      Here’s the website: http://www.TheScienceofFun.org

      Here’s the registration link: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/17RfM7NH74-1HLFc3BY__oBRUfH8UOtjCkp9R_U9s9fE/viewform

You can register and then cancel if the conditions turn ugly and you decide that driving is unsafe. No penalty.

IF we can, we’ll have camps the rest of the week whenever school is closed. However, it all depends on the road conditions. First priority: be safe!
