Craft Beer Bar and Comic Book Store Coming to Decatur?

Decatur Metro | September 13, 2013

OK.  Here is what I know.

Little Shop of Stories wrote this in their latest newsletter…

Calling all fans of comic books! Some friends of ours are starting a comic book/craft beer store (isn’t that the greatest combo ever?) called My Parents’ Basement, and to kick off their endeavors, they are having a yard sale selling thousands of comics! For more information, visit www.facebook.com/MyParentsBasement.

Jump to the aforementioned Facebook page and you see this description…

My Parent’s Basement is an upcoming Craft Beer Bar/ Comic Book Store looking to locate itself in downtown Decatur. Keep checking on us for news and updates. Also, check out our Ebay store.

CORE Performance Company Kicks Off 27th Season Tonight with “still”, Other New Works

Decatur Metro | September 13, 2013

still COREdance

Ryan sends along this release…

CORE Performance Company — the professional dance company of COREdance — will commence their 27th season with performances on Friday and Saturday, Sept. 13 and 14, at the Decatur High School Performing Arts Center (310 N. McDonough St., Decatur, GA), at 8 p.m. The shows will feature the much-anticipated performance, “still,” and other new and original works by CORE Performance Company.

Tickets are required, free, and limited. They can be reserved at: COREdance.secure.force.com/ticket/#details_a0SA000000CQBxfMAH.

The Sept. 13 performance will also offer a VIP experience — including premiere seating and a post-performance reception with the company and special guests. VIP tickets are 20 dollars and available at: COREdance.secure.force.com/ticket/#sections_a0FA0000009yrKXMAY.

The event will feature three distinct and varied dance works:

  • “still,” by CORE Artistic Director Sue Schroeder, is inspired by the poem, “La Escuela,” by Garcia Lorca. Addressing the signs left on each of us by destiny, Schroeder’s signature style of movement investigation reveals the intimate alongside the archetypal.

  • “Web,” by guest artist Becky Valls, is an ensemble work with urgency and humor, comings and goings, and shoes that are on and off the dancers. Valls gave each performer a solo that was woven into duets and group work with contributions by the dancers.

  • “Monochrome in Black, White, and Gray,” by members of CORE Performance Company, is a new dance commissioned by The Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, in Houston, Texas, for their exhibition “Picasso Black and White.”

CORE is supported in part by the Metropolitan Atlanta Arts Fund, The Pattillo Foundation, Cameron and Roberts Insurance, and the Georgia Council for the Arts (GCA) through the appropriations from the Georgia General Assembly. GCA is a partner agency of the National Endowment for the Arts.

Underwriting for this production of “still” has been provided by the Decatur Arts Alliance, Decatur Downtown Development Authority, Decatur Tourism Bureau, and Lenz, Inc. The VIP experience is made possible by Chai Pani Indian Street Food and Twain’s Billiards and Tap in Decatur.
