Glad our tax dollars went to the streetscape in this area. These nice wide sidewalks are so pedestrian friendly…………..
Seriously, cars parked on the sidewalks here is a common thing during Taqueria’s open hours. I have asked city officials about striping the parking lot to make the parking area more defined . Been told it is not the city’s jurisdiction. I’ve asked why the cars aren’t ticketed . City says there aren’t clear rules about parking here since it could be considered a driveway. Strange that the City planted trees and put a lamp post in a possible driveway .
There is no way the person who parked there didn’t realize he/she was parking on a sidewalk. And if not, then I am guessing said person probably shouldn’t have a driver’s license. These are the type of people who attempt to snag a table prior to placing their order – thankfully that is not kosher at Taqueria. Boo. Hiss. And to FiFi’s comment that City says rules not clear/this might be considered a driveway – that seems downright silly. Does that mean I could drive my car up and down the sidewalk as long as I am about to “park” as that entire stretch along Ponce is broken up by driveways crossing the sidewalk.
The City can’t force a private property owner like Taqueria to stripe their parking lot.
The City does have jurisdiction over the sidewalk but I believe the issue there is enforcement. The Ambassadors are only authorized to ticket at expired meters (they don’t really come down to LoPo much anyway). Our police officers have more important things to do than write parking tickets.
I guess we need some parking enforcement officials ( on bikes maybe ?) with broader authority than the ambassadors . I bet just a few weeks of regular ticketing in front of Taqueria would all but eliminate the problem.
If you call the non-emergency number 404-373-6551 and an officer is available, they’ll come and ticket. I have done it and rarely does it take more than 5 or 10 minutes for one to arrive.
One could do that, or one could just whip off a little napkin note to the driver, kindly telling them that Decatur is a friendly town that welcomes all kinds of people…except for Sidewalk Parkers.
Honestly, I doubt the driver knew she was parking on a sidewalk. It looks like one big pad to me when I walk by. Pretty funny to think about it in that way.
Boo to the above “Parker”.
Re parking in that area, I was just commenting last night that I wish the City would limit the two Loading Zone parking spaces in front of Sharian to business hours or whenever Sharian or other nearby businesses are typically loading things, which is not 24 hrs/ day. With Chai Pani, Taq, Farmburger, yogurt, those two spots are prime during the evening hours.
Interesting Picture. I wonder what kind of bumper stickers the vehicle has plastered on the rear: “Obama 12, Share the Road, Darwin/Fish, Republicans For Voldemort, Yes, We Can/Did, Coexist, Free Kermit Gosnell, Make Love, Not War (ok, so the last one is a bit of a stretch)”.
No way of knowing of course. Just pure speculation.
nice shaded parking spot.
Shame. People would have a place to walk here if we’d just get rid of those darn trees.

Based on that statement, it’s safe to assume that car belongs to a city employee.
What a complete butthead. I hope he gets a few tickets and a few dents.
Look, people. This guy is obviously just more important than EVERYONE else.
Exactly. We expect him to WALK some sort of distance to his destination?
Also, that appears to be a Pontiac. You don’t just park those anywhere; you must display them audaciously.
+1
Two words:
Tow Truck
Or a few stenciled foot prints…
Involuntary giggling.

A $35 ticket would have more deterrent toward repeat offenses than a napkin note. Been there, done that also.

“The City can’t force a private property owner like Taqueria to stripe their parking lot.”
I don’t believe this is true. In fact, cities and counties typically do require striping.
If someone “accidentally” knocked out a tail light, that someone wouldn’t get a ticket because the car was parked illegally.
I hope that guy walking behind the car realizes he’s in danger… what with walking on a driveway and all.
The only thing worse would be a cyclist chaining his bicycle right there!

No relation to this “Parker!”
In my justice-fantasy, limber pedestrians in hob-nail boots would walk right over the car.
Ha, I wondered if you’d chime in!

Or a McCain/Palin bumper sticker.
BS, Chris. That sort of entitlement mentality is all Republican I got mine, tough for you.
I don’t think there is any class with a greater sense of entitlement than drivers.
