Can anyone recommend a dollar store which reliably stocks large quantities of squirrel chow? If you’ve ever tried to have any store in this genre special order it, you’ll know where I’m coming from.
Been looking forward to this all week, haven’t you?
Several weeks. Apparently my superego left early for the weekend so this posting was able to slip through today.
Noticed a film crew wandering around downtown near McDonalds and Burnt Fork. Anyone knows what’s going on?
Maybe they’re hungry?
Bazinga!
might have been the crew from Travel Channel’s The Layover. supposedly Anthony Bourdain was at Iberian Pig and Leon’s yesterday.
I know Bourdain has loads of expertise on fine food, cooking, & travel, plus legions of adoring fans, but there’s just something about him that makes me want to, oh, I dunno…deliver a roundhouse kick to his face. And I’m not usually a violent-natured person at all!
(Sorry. Just had to get that off my chest.)
I’m actually really glad to hear someone else say this. He’s too mean and too smug for my personal taste.
While we’re at it, NPR’s Scott Simon, Garrison Keillor, and Car Talk guys all get on my last nerve.
Hmm. I have a crush on Garrison Keillor and the Car Talk brothers. I don’t care how old they are. They remind me of funny guys I went to high school with. Opera on NPR gets on my last nerve.
It’s some of the local announcers (on WABE) that stretch my nerves to the limit.
I read his Kitchen Confidential and it made me feel similarly, but his stuff is somehow still compelling.
he and Alton Brown were at the Clermont the other night
Ford was filming a commercial there today.
Pretty danged happy with the RRHoF nominees this year, especially first-time nominees Rush (FINALLY!!) and Deep Purple (FINALLY!!). Also good to see Heart and Joan Jett and the Blackhearts back on the list.
Even better, Albert King, the Meters, and the Marvelettes. And perhaps Butterfield will get in this time.
I would love to see Paul Butterfield get in, since that’s my last name (yeah, I know, I lost my DM anonymity). I wanted to name one of our sons Paul, but the wife wasn’t completely on board.
Did you name him Billy?
Heart = LONG overdue! The First Ladies of Rock, the Misses Wilson, were pioneers who paved the way for women to enter the hard rock genre as actual artists/participants, rather than simply muses or groupies. IMHO, should’ve received this honor long ago, so this is awesome news!
+1 again, Cuba! I promise I’m not your new stalker.
I LOVE RUSH!!!
And I love a girl who loves Rush.
Disclaimer: I’m assuming you’re a girl, as Trudy is, in my experience, a girl’s name. But if you’re a guy with a girl’s name, or transgendered, or a cross-dresser, or some other label I haven’t thought of, no offense.
(Based on a series of posts recently seen on the Oakhurst listserve, that’s sure to piss off SOMEbody).
Hmmm…where was I going with this before it went seriously off track? Oh yeah…2112!
Moving Pictures and Power Windows. Show of Hands still the best live album ever. Another girl who loves Rush.
Moving Pictures hella yes, Power Windows meh. Permanent Waves still shines after all of these years.
I idolized Butterfield as a kid and saw some memorable shows by both the Butterfield Blues Band and his later small group Better Days (they opened for Stevie Wonder at the Capitol Theater. The late show got started close to 2:00AM and ended after the sun came up on an Easter Sunday morning). Unfortunately, my last memory of Butterfield is of sitting next to him at the bar of Albert Grossman’s place The Bear near Woodstock around 1978. He was a mess. Died way too young from living the blues life.
Didn’t Butterfield play on the Dylan Highway 61 album?!
Some Butterfield band members backed Dylan at the controversial Newport electric set in 1965, namely guitarist Mike Bloomfield, bassist Jerome Arnold and drummer Sam Lay. Al Kooper was also on stage with them. Bloomfield, Kooper, and Lay played on Highway 61 Revisited. That was back when music mattered.
Anyone have experience with one of the local structural engineer company? It’s a small job; We have foundation issues I want to have someone look at.

Reviewed my addition drawings and suggested modifications that improved the project with only minor impact on cost.
Anybody have a report out of the CSD meeting last night at Renfroe on how the next round of SPLOST money will be spent? I’m assuming construction at 5th ave, Oakhurst, new CSD offices downtown, refitting Westchester, the old RMS gym… Anybody know the actual list ?
Sure –

We have a beautiful, extra-friendly female cat who has adopted us, but she needs a home where she can spend some of her time indoors. I’m posting to see if anyone might be interested in taking her.
She first wandered to our doorstep with her three kittens several months ago. We managed to find homes for her babies, got her spayed and all her initial shots. She’s a very sweet lap cat, long-haired gray tabby, loves to be picked up and held. She’s a mouser, too – she brings “gifts” to our doorstep at least one a week. You can see pictures of her here: https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.10151234764902673.503709.709197672&type=3&l=c8b14a64e1
If you are interested, please reply or send me a message on Facebook. Thanks!
Question about the grants from the BBQ and Blues fest: If anyone on here is involved with the committee – have the grant decisions been made? I’ve checked the website and also sent a couple of emails, but they may not be getting through to the right folks. Thanks for any info!
The committee met and finalized its decisions this past Wednesday night. I’m sure the communications to recipients will be forthcoming very soon, as the expectation is to pay these out before the end of the month.
OK – Thanks!
Dear Braves:
I need this one. I suppose I can handle another Division series loss. Well, not really…but you get where I’m going with this.
I need it. Please deliver it.
JoeBlow
I hope you didn’t need a Dawgs or Tech win as well…
I know this has been asked a number of times, but can’t seem to find: looking for recommendations for a pediatric dentist in the area. Ours has just retired. Thanks!
Wesley Powell on Henderson Mill (770) 934-5900
Dr. Jonathan Eaton, on La Vista. Great practice, the kids love everyone there, very cutting edge. 770-934-3506…
Ditto for Eaton. Hey, I think KWC may be Mrs. JC!
Elise Ashpole
-not necessarily pediatric but AWESOME with kids!

Drs. Stein and Frankel on Lawrenceville Hwy. They have been amazing with my daughter. My husband snd i use them too and have always had great experiences with them. http://www.2thdocs.com/
Shout out to Revolution Doughnuts. Their pumpkin-sour cream doughnut with ginger glaze is nom-licious!!
Surprised that there are three Romney signs in my neighborhood. That’s three more republican signs in our neighborhood than last presidential election.
We’re in Florida right now and most of the signs around here are Romney. I don’t suppose they would miss one so maybe I’ll bring one home. Then again, maybe not since I live in a home where all are welcome…especially my wife!
They’re slowly but surely encroaching…
Is this a negative? Should we not welcome all?
Ah, if only the republicans would do this!
We should welcome all and respect everyones right to hold various views. An independent!
I think “all” and “everyone” may be going just a bit too far:
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/10/06/paul-broun-evolution-big-bang_n_1944808.html
That one was a good facepalm for me, and my favorite part of it is that he is on the House Committee on Science, Space and Technology. Really?! But Rep. Broun only gets the silver medal this weekend. This State Rep from Arkansas gets the gold.

Good grief!
It’s this kind of ignorance that keeps me from calling myself a Republican…
I lean conservative on most things, and would generally prefer for the government to set clear and simple rules to keep us from encroaching on each other’s rights (be they economic or social).
“Pragmatic libertarian” is my chosen political label. And while I typically vote Republican, I don’t trust either party to have control over both the executive and legislative branches. When that happens, both parties’ extreme elements get emboldened to push their agenda.
That is sort of interesting b/c it says the guy is a MD. So it’s hard to believe he is stupid or “anti-science” in general, as opposed to allowing his strong religious beliefs force him into a state of denial on certain elements of science. No matter how smart you are, reason can give way to emotion. (I am refering here to the rep who says the Earth is only 6,000 years old. The “slavery was A OK” thing is totally inexplicable.)
This is simply not true according to any reading of of Decatur election results of the past several years, and I suspect the outcome will be true again this year.
Decatur has for the past decade, at least, voted at least 75% for the Democratic candidate whether it be for President or US Senate or state office. Yes, that means that 25% of Decatur regularly votes for Republicans. And, yes, a few of them might have Romney signs in their yards. Heck, I even saw a Santorum sign in a yard back in the primaries. That doesn’t mean that he received any more than a handful of votes in Decatur.
Marty, Marty, Marty (and everyone else, too)…Am I going to have to start using sarcasm/humour icons whenever I post a joke? Good heavens!
Love, Cuba (Former Republican, Independent Since 1992)
I have extra Romney/Ryan yard signs for City of Decatur residents. Send me an email with name, address, phone and email and I’ll get you one.
Romney/Ryan yard signs, in Decatur, now that’s real change… and courage too!
I’ve proudly already got mine up. Just counting the days until it’s vandalized in the name of inclusiveness and diversity.
paranoid much?
Any ideas where I can pick up a cheap or used bicycle for adults? The offspring already have them and now the parental units are considering it as well . . . But before we wholeheartedly commit to it, I’d like a cheaper option to make sure we are actually going to use them . . .
we’ve scored a few off of craig and his list
Bike South also generally has a set of used bikes for sale in the rack in front of the store. Small selection, though. But you know, just say the heck with it and go straight to a Specialized Carbon road bike!
That’s what I’d do. Once you buy the expensive snazzy equipment, you’re forced to use it! Plus you feel cool.
the recently opened used and vintage bike shop in avondale might be worth a look. not sure your expectations for a bike, but I know I would take a look there if I were in the market for an inexpensive option.

Need a photographer to take 4 or 5 different shots of our family in front of our home in decatur – Anybody know of anyone that isnt outrageously expensive?
So I was contemplating going back to Chick-Fil-A because it seemed like the story was Chic-Fil-A (the company) wasn’t going to give money to ‘turn you straight” organizations, but then Cathy couldn’t keep quiet. Thanks for clearing that up for me Mr. Cathy. I love ‘heritage’ getting thrown in there as well.

Pinewood Lounge is now open on Monday nights! Enjoyed the oyster roll there.
This morning around 8:30, my husband witnessed a heavy equipment hauler (empty) get stuck on the tracks. He says that as it was crossing at McDonough, the connection between the cab/truck and the empty bed looked like it snapped and the bed went down on the tracks. He called 911. Police arrived shortly after.
