    Dog Missing Near Glenlake Park

    Decatur Metro | September 24, 2012

    Chris writes in…

Our mixed boxer/pit mix Gracie somehow went missing from Norris Street near Glen Lake Park around 5:30 Sunday afternoon.  I searched the neighborhood until 10:45 to no avail.  Gracie is a brown female with a white crest on her chest.  She is very friendly and quite submissive, especially around other dogs.  She is wearing a red collar with tags.  If anyone sees her, please call Chris at () or the City of Decatur police.  Thanks.

Thanks to DecMetro and all who called expressing concern. Around 9:30 I received a call from a Glen Lake dog park patron who said that a friend had seen Gracie running around cars trying to leave the park. Afraid that Gracie would be hit, she brought her home for safe keeping. One of her dog park friends called me. Not only did my wife get the dog back but she also met a very nice and caring dog lover.
This is the second time over the past several years that Decatur Metro and its readers has intervened to help resolve a crisis in my life. Several years ago, readers helped save an injured barred owl I found along Church Street. And today, a very special dog was returned to my family.
At times like this, I often reflect on how lucky I am to live in a place like Decatur. And it’s not only because of the great “homes, churches, and schools”, but maybe most of all, because of the people… and individuals like Mr. Decatur Metro, who provides a valuable service to all. God Bless Decatur!

+1. Glad all ended well. We may not all agree politically or socially on this blog and occasionally we annoy one another but there’s a true ethic of caring and helping our neighbors and community.

It must be pollen season again as I have something in my eye.
