DM – Looks like their are some bad links (probably hanging around the Square too much!
Wow, what a mess! Not sure what happened. Thanks, should be fixed now.
King of Pops robbery upsets me.
I hope the King of Pops guy filed a police report. The robber made a bunch of mistakes that allowed his victim to get a pretty thorough description.
Duh…the first sentence says he informed police. Forgive me, I’m slow today.
This also happened to a friend of mine on the square. Her wallet was stolen off the table where she and her family were having dinner! Really brazen stuff.
Maybe we need some Newport Beach PD to put an end to it.
Really though, the police dept should put out a news alert – it seems roving ne’er-do-wells are targeting the square as an easy mark.
Bummer about KoP. I wonder if it might be safer to keep the cash bag in the actual cooler with the pops. Wouldn’t prevent a holdup, obviously, but might help deter this kind of snatch and dash.
I’m glad Owen Wilson and Vince Vaughn have had the opportunity to get a more well-rounded view of Atlanta/ITP. For some reason it always irks me when I hear stars sighted in Buckhead and I imagine that being their chief perception of our town. So many out-of-towners try to impress me by telling me, “Well, I know Buckhead is the cool place to hang out, right?” and I want to shake them.
Totally agreed. Buckhead, in my ways, reminds me of Los Angeles. Glad Owen Wilson was so taken with Piedmont Park. It’s very impressive to me as a native and it’s always good to get confirmation from outsiders.
Question: Is it just me, or have others noticed that there seems to be fewer foot and bike police patrols around the square than in the past? I always see plenty during festivals, but I have not noticed many lately during the typical day. Seems to me the downtown area in general could use more such patrols.
Maybe the bike cops are too scared of being ticketed by Officer Lindsey?
Like.
Heat related?
Stop resisting! STOP RESISTING!!!
Surely there is CCTV on the square that picked up the incident
Look above the IP restaurant, on the roof. Looks like a camera to me.
It’s a wifi antenna.
In the past year I’ve been more aware of snatch and dash type crimes around the Square — random things ranging from kids’ purses and phones targeted in the Chik-Fil-A to Avelino’s tip jar to this.
Which has gone up, crime or awareness?
I like the police presence on the Square (although I haven’t noticed lately and am not contradicting Brianc) and hope when I throw lazy children out of the house that the square is one of the safe walk/bike destinations. The front porch assaults are much more disturbing. Seems like we have to fight the reaction to never leave the house and never let your kids out of your sight.
