My favorite quote from the DeKalb Farmers Market article was “Owners Robert and Barbara Blazer did not return repeated calls for comment about their plans.” Sometimes non-details say even more than the specifics.
I detest that tag.
Yuck on the tag, but I guess it’s better than some of the alternatives. That doesn’t look like any part of Georgia I’ve spent time in. But then, I’m a transplanted Yankee who lives inside the perimeter so what do I know.
I agree. Although my 2 year old did say that she liked the “pretty pumpkins”…
As I always say when casually discussing graphic design…”The more fonts, the better!”
. . . and Copperplate makes every design special!
Well, I’m not ashamed to admit that I think it’s kind of pretty. (But, of course, I’m wearing a big floral-print headband today, so what do I know?) This driver will, however, fight the lure of the peachkin and stay loyal to the dog plate.
Maybe you’re on to something here. Perhaps the state figured if it made the “regular” plate as ugly as possible, more folks would pay the upgrade for specialty plates. We do have a bit of a revenue crisis going on, after all. Oh, I see someone else has made the same observation below…
I was in a DeKalb County supermarket bright and early Saturday morning to purchase wine for an evening party and found out that they can’t do alcohol sales prior to 8 a.m. (So I had to stand there for about ten minutes until the appointed hour.) Can we work on 24 hour sales now?
Edgewood Kroger sells beer and wine 24/6. I think retail sales are only taboo from after midnight Saturday until what, 12:30 PM?
Correct, and it’s a pain in the tookus. We usually shop there on Sunday mornings and I always have to make a separate trip. If you’re going to sell on Sunday, just go all out and sell all day.
I think the tag is hideous. I think the process by which they selected the design is absurd. And I think the article about who will be required to replace their current tag and when, is confusing: “…license plates issued prior to December 1, 2003, will be replaced either when owners renew their vehicle registration or when they register a vehicle for the first time. License plates issued after December 1, 2003 will be replaced.” ??
I can see a Thomas Kinkade influence. Perhaps it will become collectible.
Thank you tom! A key feature of good art criticism is that it puts the gut reaction you had into words you didn’t realize it could be expressed in. I agree about the T. K. influence.
Wasn’t there a plain white tag option available?
Maybe it is a secret plot to drive up the purchase of specialty plates. I need to start looking at my options.
Interestingly you can add a sticker to that new plate that reads, “In God we trust”. Its free (and presumably paid for by tax payer money?). Another excellent example of the separation of church and state!
All that’s missing is Ned Beatty grimacing in terror. Forward.
Re: Dekalb Sunday sales.
Good. This means no more confused patrons arguing the YDFM staff about whether “Decatur allows Sunday sales!”
Revolution Donuts is my first exposure to Kickstarter and I gave it a shot. Will be interesting to see how it works out. My first inclination was it was just cyber-begging, but with a little research I found that for this deal I’ll reap donut and coffee dividends. How awesome is that?!?
I agree. At $2.00 per donut at the Decatur Farmer’s Market, the dividends on the Kickstarter investment are looking pretty good. And if it’s in your personal interest to have yummy donuts and coffee in your neighborhood, then you come out ahead.
Yeah, I don’t see how this ask is any different than buying a Groupon deal, really. You are basically pre-buying for a discount.
Exactly what I was thinking…they’ve just given it a twist and I guess theoretically it’s for new businesses or maybe you can also ask for money for expanding businesses….not sure what the “rules” are.
