Report: West Egg Cafe Opening Second Location at Emory Point

    Decatur Metro | March 28, 2012

    From the in-the-know Tomorrow’s News Today…

West Egg Cafe, which first opened on the Westside in 2004 and moved to its current home, (a few feet away) also within White Provision in 2010, is finally branching out. West Egg founders Ben & Jennifer Johnson will open a second eatery later this fall in Emory Point on Clifton Road near Emory University. Though a name has not been confirmed for the new eatery, I’m told “East Egg” has at least been mentioned. I’m told the new eatery will not be exactly the same as West Egg and will likely offer a number of bagels and a larger assortment of breakfast beverages.

Hmmmm. How about “East-West Egg Cafe” for the name? And they could serve susi on those bagels.

uh….that would be “sushi”, of course.

We’re sorta thinking alike– my first thought was, “Why not call it ‘West Egg East’?” :-D

They should call it Buchanan’s and put a green light out front so we could find it.

The first and only time I had brunch at their other location, the wait was over an hour. I was expecting so much more based on that, and thought it was OK, but pretty standard. Didn’t understand what all the fuss was about.

In that case, they should have just called it “The Flying Biscuit”.

I haven’t been to Flying Biscuit for awhile, but it’s always had stellar breakfast IMHO. I don’t do hour long waits now that I’m not dating anymore, not to mention always have grumpy husband and kids in tow, but I think the Flying Biscuit is worth getting up real early for so there’s no wait.

I love the Biscuit, but more for the history. It was one on the first of its kind on our side of town. Today there are so many great place to try.

Haven’t been to the Biscuit in a while either, except to get pastries to go next door. Last time I was at the McClendon location, went back to the smaller Gato Bizco across the street for the shorter wait and really good breakfast. Nice people.

              I second that emotion!

I just never understood the mass love for the Biscuit. Then again, I’m also a Yankee and I hate biscuits in general. Also, I cannot hear the word “brunch” without wishing we had a Grit closer than Athens!

“Then again, I’m also a Yankee and I hate biscuits in general.” Ahhhhh…totally explains the lack of Biscuit respect, my curmdgeonly comrade. Will be taking your future pronouncements on all things biscuit with a large grain of salt! :-P

That is a wise course of action, Caribbean lady who cannot decide if she has one name or two!

Now, if maybe you should want to know about bagels, on that I can expound…

LOL! On my personal machine, I have an anti-cookie/”cover-your-tracks” program running, so it periodically wipes out anything I have stored. At work, it’s pretty stable, so here, my moniker looks the same, but at home & on wifi, it looks different according to whatever permutation of CubaLibre I enter at the time…how I manage to keep my same little purple snowflake cube is a mystery, tho!

Went to the Grit a few days ago and I can attest it’s just as tasty (if not more so) than my memory serves.

West Egg is great though! Step-up from Flying Biscuit imo.

West Egg is awesome, and don’t write them off if you’re not a brunch person. It’s a great place to go for lunch and dinner as well!
