6am Soccer Practice at DHS

I noticed the lights to the DHS stadium were on [Thursday] morning when I arrived at work. The girls’ soccer team, coached by Stephen Gathany, were on the field getting ready for the upcoming season. 6:00 A.M. practices, even when it’s dark and cold, is what it takes to win a region championship.

go girls! that’s some dedication.
I thought the whole idea behind the early start times for the high school was to prevent stuff like this. I don’t have a problem with it particularly aside from the fact that admins were saying that one reason they wanted to start early was so that there would be time for sports in the afternoon.
It has nothing to do with start times of schools but rather very limited access to practice fields. There just aren’t enough fields to accomodate the spring sports. Lacrosse has practice at 6am many times in the past.
If school started at 7:30, they should still have early morning practice. Kids need it – they have it too easy these day! Kudos to Coach Gathany!
