Watershed Reportedly Moving to South Buckhead
Decatur Metro | August 9, 2011
So says the all-knowing Tomorrow’s News Today blog…
Joe Truex and Co. have signed a lease for a new home for Watershed Restaurant which closed last week after more than a decade in Decatur. …Intended to be the signature restaurant of the Brookwood on Peachtree, Watershed plans to reopen in their new digs by year end. Interestingly the Brookwood, a condo building, was recently purchased and units are again being sold after the building sat abandoned and vacant for over a year.
For all those fried-chicken heads out there, it looks like it’s around a 20 minute drive from Decatur, according to Google Maps.
This move will serve as the basis of my new book, “How Decatur Saved Buckhead”.

This might make more sense for them…I predicted a Midtown location for better access to tourists; this location accomplishes that too.
It’s possible to drive from Decatur to Buckhead in 20 minutes? Who knew? (This question is purely academic; I wouldn’t drive to Buckhead to eat at Watershed if they were paying me.)
25 minutes at 6AM to Piedmont Hospital (1 block away); I try yo ride my bike most mornings – then it takes 40 minutes.
Twenty minutes…maybe at 3 am on a weeknight.
Not a Watershed fan, won’t be driving to Buckhead either, but interesting to note that they just made ATL MAG’s list of 50 worthwhile restaurants.
Are there any good restaurants in Buckhead, anyway? Okay besides Super Jenny…
I liked Watershed but I can’t help thinking Buckhead is getting our sloppy seconds.
Varasano’s.
Aria
Cafe Jonah and the Magical Attic is a great little spot.
Cafe Agora is one of the best casual eats in the city, but they’re opening a second location in Midtown.
Whaaaa? For real?? I love me some Al and Agora Cafe. I’m in Buckhead several times a week but hardly ever eat there because of the parking cluster fu*$. Where in Midtown are they opening? I’d say I wished for a Decatur location but I’m not sure that folks around here are ready for Al and his creative pricing. But oooooh, an Agora mezza platter within walking distance would be sweet.
It’s in Historic Commercial Row, next to the Margaret Mitchell House on Peachtree.
Oh good, I see that they didn’t give in to pressure from the crazy folks who would like nearby, convenient free parking!
Bones-if you can afford it. I also like Cafe Anis and the sushi place on Pharr Rd, the name of which escapes me.
Restaurant Eugene, Holeman&Finch, Cafe Sunflower. La Pietra Cuchina is just south of Buckhead.
4 of Atlanta magazine’s top 10 restaurants are in Buckhead, for whatever that’s worth.
Bistro Nikko is really great, actually.
Will miss you, Watershed.
In the same 20 minutes you can be at the Colonnade any night of the week and get far superior fried chicken for half the price and double the amount. There, I said it!
Preach it, brother!
Buckhead gives me hives.
Happens to me too.
It’s a lot like that OTP rash Nelliebelle is always so concerned about
Maybe that’s a good reason for them to move to Buckhead – no good restaurants (except Holeman & Finch – which I wish was somewhere else).
I guess I’ll never eat there again.
Shades of Empire State South. But Buckhead?
What Now Atlanta is saying that is unconfirmed. According to a spokeswoman at “the development the restaurant is rumored to open at,” several retail outlets are in negotiation for space there—one being a restaurant—but that a lease has not been secured.
Could be true – but not confirmed.
Yeah, and a Walmart is coming to Suburban Plaza….riiiiight.
Good luck in your new endeavor, Watershed folks. Everyone deserves a chance at a fresh start.
Google Maps gives a silly route to that block from Decatur. Just this past Saturday I went N.Decatur/Rocksprings/Piedmont/Beverly, and it was MUCH easier.
