Red Shoes Is At It Again

    Decatur Metro | October 21, 2010

    Daren Wang writes on Facebook…

Whenever you get a bunch of Decaturites in a room, they’ll eventually say “You know what this town needs? It needs an XXXXXX!”

Well, there are some folks bringing something very much like XXXXXX to town. I’m not saying what it is, but there’s an announcement coming in the next week about Decatur’s new cool c…ultural entity.

In the meantime, put November 20th on your calendar. Trust me on this.

    Such a tease.

Ahhhhh, the suspense!!!! No hints? Or is the c…ultural entity a hint? Hmmm.

      Independent movie theater?

      Monster truck rally? Cool.

      Could it be a c….inema?

Please be a cinema! Second choice: Monster truck rally.

Evening dancing to an orchestra on the Marta plaza?

      • Decatur Metro says:
        October 21, 2010 at 2:08 pm

        That doesn’t begin with a “C”!

I think it’s a cat cafe. I’m always telling strangers that’s what this city needs. I also like to bring it up at commission meetings during “reports and other business”.

        • Parker Cross says:
          October 21, 2010 at 3:16 pm

Maybe I’m not buying in to the C hint. Could be a McGuffin.

But if you want to roll that way:
          CIA outpost?
previously undiscovered Cave Dwellings in Marta tunnel?
          Comedy Club?
          Comic book store?
          CANNABIS DISPENSARY?

          • Cubalibre says:
            October 21, 2010 at 9:23 pm

“CANNABIS DISPENSARY”– yeeeeeeeee HAWWWWW!!! Bring on the brownies, baybee!!!

        October 21, 2010 at 4:25 pm

Ok then, a ‘cotillion’ on Marta Square, non?

        • DarenW says:
          October 21, 2010 at 4:30 pm

You know, I was drinkin’ at Eddie’s last week, and there was a guy at the bar, pounding Jaeger shots. Out of nowhere, he ups and says, “what this town needs is a cotillion.”

          • Parker Cross says:
            October 21, 2010 at 10:15 pm

I’m In for the cotillion. I still have my gown. Not sure what happened to my corsage.

        • Parker Cross says:
          October 21, 2010 at 10:17 pm

Baavo, MikeC. I struggled to come up with a C word. Cudos to you.

A giant C…anopy to block the sun on Ponce.
A C…athedral with a bell tower for hourly chimes.
      A marina for C…atamarans.

      oh…a C…offee shop. I get it now.

      • Parker Cross says:
        October 21, 2010 at 10:30 pm

PMcG, I was in Seville with me sister last year, and they had giant canopies over many of the town squares. Very nice.

I read that as Snellville twice. I need a vacation.

          • Parker Cross says:
            October 21, 2010 at 10:55 pm

Seville is a great vacation destination. Snellville? Maybe not so much, but certainly cheaper!

              October 21, 2010 at 11:04 pm

I wondered why the heck you’d go to Snellville and pay that much attention.

          • KC says:
            October 21, 2010 at 11:17 pm

I totally read that as Snellville too! I was so confused. :)

Sevilla is one of my favorite cities in Spain–love the Andulusia region!

XXXXXX=CINEMA or a 6X strip club, one or the other.

      • Decatur Metro says:
        October 21, 2010 at 2:48 pm

I made that joke originally in my post, but then took it out!

        • Diane says:
          October 21, 2010 at 5:09 pm

Don’t we already have strip clubs just outside of town, on Ponce, on the way to the Farmer’s Market?

Let’s see, it’s gotta be something somewhat literary, since that’s Wang’s thing.
Comedy club or cinema seems likely. Are they going to show movies in the Decatur High School auditorium? Convert one of the abandoned grocery stores into a movie theatre?
          The reputed Dollar General?

          C—at house? C…athedra/?
Chai cafe. Chocolate bar (but we had one of those)
          Chocolate FACTORY?
          Coffee plantation.
          Chicken farm?
          Cabaret?
          Concert club? Concertina club?
          Cake-decorating Competition

          Ohhh. I’ve GOT IT!!!!

Cycling Cinema Cabaret Club…It’s a way to keep Decaturites fit. Everybody gets on a bicycle, and the pedaling powers the projectors. The snack bar has PowerAde and Cliff bars, and you burn off the calories while you pedal. Yep, this is definitely what they’re going to announce.

      • TeeRuss says:

    19. D says:

    20. Kathy says:
      October 21, 2010 at 9:21 pm

Surely this must be a big announcement about a collaboration between the Red Shoe and Agnes Scott…..but, where does the “C” fit in? I know…Co-eds!

    21. Meg says:
      October 21, 2010 at 9:42 pm

Maybe this is off the “c” subject, but what’s happening in the Emile Baran location?

      • Parker Cross says:
        October 21, 2010 at 10:26 pm

Soon to reopen as The Cello Cornucopia. With a sideline of Cymbals. And clarinets. And concertinas.

    22. DarenW says:
      October 21, 2010 at 11:34 pm

Yes, both the Trader Joe’s corporate office, and the location scout folks at Costco called me this week and told me about their plans to locate here in Decatur.

Closer to Cello Cornucopia than Costco.

    23. Louis says:
      October 22, 2010 at 6:47 am

I wonder if someone in Decatur finally figured out that the Decatur High School auditorium might be a good venue for an occasional movie (or movie festival?) that might draw some of the ASC and Emory faculty and students that we referenced in the WSJ article post the other day. So I throw my vote with Karass and say C is for CINEMA …

    24. GAJoe says:

      cornucopia catering?

If this is indeed referring to a cinema, where would it go? There’s already that quaint old cinema in Avondale that just needs a proper restoration…

    27. I heart nelliebelle says:
      October 22, 2010 at 1:29 pm

Yes, let’s reopen the cinema in Avondale! And offer $3 movies. :-)

      • Diane says:

Wonder if that business plan would actually make money?

        • King of Belvedere Park says:
          October 25, 2010 at 3:20 pm

Well, the theater on Ponce works on basically a co-op format, I believe. They sell membership/sponsorship packages.

          • lumpintheroad says:
            October 26, 2010 at 5:58 pm

If you’re referring to The Plaza, your assumption that the co-op model works may not hold up for much longer, unfortunately. They’ve been barely scraping by for quite some time.
