Walk to School Day Pep Rally Today on Decatur Square
Decatur Metro | October 5, 2010
From Decatur Active Living’s Cheryl Burnette…
City of Decatur Active Living invites the community to the annual International Walk to School Day Pep Rally to be held on the Old Courthouse Square on Tuesday, October 5th from 5:30 until 7pm. Children will have the opportunity to win prizes and make a poster to carry on Wednesday for Walk and Roll to School Day. Musical entertainment will be provided by Douglas Brake and the Sizzle, Hiss Pop Band! Local celebrities will be on hand, including our School Crossing Guards, Mayor Bill Floyd, Stephanie Stuckey and Decatur Commissioners. Kaiser Permanente’s Doc Broc will also be at the event!
The event is a kick off for Walk & Roll to School Day on Wednesday October 6th. Our four City of Decatur elementary schools participate in the Safe Routes to School Program which encourages children to walk or ride their bikes to school. This is not only a healthy alternative to riding in a car, but helps the air quality by cutting auto emissions.

Good rally. Thanks, Greg, Fred, school crossing guards, and everyone who makes this a special event for children and their parents. More, more,…
As usual, Ms. Grump at our house did not want to get up in time to bike, but when we said it was INTERNATIONAL Walk and Roll Day, she had to admit that it was time to get up. (Maybe it’s only NATIONAL, not International, Walk and Roll Day, but please do not disillusion Ms. Grump).
It is International- glad Ms Grump participated. We will participate in Georgia Walk & Roll to School Day the first Wednesday in March. Thanks to everyone who made this event safe and fun for our children. More info and a couple of pictures at http://www.beactivedecatur.com
