Okay…I’m going to throw a good and bad expierence with Decatur shops. I hate to complain about local business, but when its bad, its bad.
First the good. Intown Ace is by far the best place to shop for me in Decatur, I have never been in a store with a better group of people. Always nice, helpful and just pleasant to deal with. And very very knowledgeable toboot.
Now the bad. Decatur CD. I went in looking for a cd, little did i realize the cd I was looking for was apparently not hip enough for that store. As soon as I asked for the cd the older gentleman (white hair and white beard) starting mumbling, did not make eye contact when I was talking to him and acted as though I was wasting his time. When I said “sorry?” because I could not hear his mumble nor read his lips as he was not looking at me he told me he could order it or I should just go to Target, I was obviously waisting his time.
Why do people have to be rude like this? How hard is it to make eye contact with the customer, be pleasant, and not belittle my first expirience in the shop by acting like I’m waisting your time asking for a silly cd?
I dont feel like I should have to bone up on my hipster indy music to walk into a cd store.
I live within walking distance of this shop (I walked there that day), but will never return. I’ll be driving to Wuxtry.
Anyway…Intown Ace rocks!!! Wish they sold cd’s.
Oh, come on, don’t leave us hanging! What was the CD???
Soundtrack to that movie with Keanu Reeves and Charlize Theron…
I couldn’t disagree more. The fine folks at DecaturCD are always extraordinarily friendly. I once ordered a children’s music CD for a road trip. I didn’t come in on time so the owner swung by Best Buy and bought the CD I wanted. Which ultimately means he sold it to me at a loss. Not knocking your taste in music, but independent music stores sell independent music. That’s what their clientele is shopping for. If the CD you were looking for is so mainstream it’s doubtful Wuxtry would carry it either. It doesn’t sell in these types of stores and takes up valuable shelf real estate. It’s the same reason Taqueria doesn’t have quesadillas on the menu, it’s not part of the brand image. As far as the mumbling is concerned, don’t take it so personally, lots of people mumble. He’s a friendly guy and meant no harm, I assure you.
Could not agree with you more Writer Chad. Typical summer Friday night for us: dinner at the bar at Taqueria, walk for a snoball, walk to Decatur CD so Hubs can see if the new Black Crowes is there yet (yes, we own it now), then back home. I have been able to find mainstream music as well as obscure things at Decatur CD. He has also been very kind to order CDs for me when he has not had them.
Sorry you had a bad experience Marker.
Think that Marker was just sharing her bad service experience. So not sure if that is to be disagreed with, ya’ know? In my line of work with the public, I get all kinds of questions that may SEEM incredibly silly or unnecessary, but I never make the person feel stupid for asking.
Seconded. Although I’ve never had a bad experience w/ DCD, I don’t automatically discount the possibility that someone else could, and through no fault of their own. Shopkeepers are human, just like the rest of us, and can have a bad day where they’ll react in a manner unlike their “usual” selves (heaven knows I certainly have!). However, Marker is reacting no differently than I would if I wandered into a shop for the first time & got rudely treated, regardless of the reason. When you’re making your living in retail, you’re usually skimming by on the slimmest of margins anyway– bad word-of-mouth can keep people from coming into your shop even once, so even on your worst days, you should remember that.
I’ll third your second. Hence my reasoning for offering good word-of-mouth. Who’s on first?
But Chadley, you are a hipster.
Yeah, but I buy my KE$HA at Wally World just like everybody else.
I think you have now shattered my whole Chad fantasy person to bits….
Thanks to his picture the only way I’d ever recognize Chad is if he was standing about 3 feet above me.
I refuse to look at photo-avatars or memorize people’s faces. I’ve got my own fantasy of how everyone looks, and I ain’t lettin’ reality get in the way…
Keep the fantasy alive, I just wanted to use a $ as a S. I’m still a hip$ter.
Oh yea? Did you make it to Community Circle today?
Yes, my avatar made an appearance.
While I can’t say I’m a big fan of the “Kesha” singer, I will say this parody had me cracking up all day at work-
Warren and crew must have been having a bad day. Usually they’re happy to talk your ear off about any and all music or non-music related topics. Definitely my favorite independent cd store.
the decatur cd guys have always been very friendly and helpful with me. even when i bought lady gaga!
Was the Braves game on TV? Or perhaps curling?
Wow I have always gotten excellent service at Decatur CD when I have gone! Even was super helpful picking a Secret Santa gift this past year for an older male co-worker who’s music taste I did not know. My gift was was so perfect my co-worker went all over our large place of business showing people. They also have given my husband head’s up about CD’s that are going to be published in the near future that my husband might like and so far they have been dead on.
The cd was an old Three Days Grace cd…but kinda irrelivant to my point. It shouldnt matter if its Hazel Virtue or Pink Floyd, it doesn’t, IMO give you a right [edited: no name calling] to a potential customer.
Glad everyone else has had good experiences, regardless if he was having a bad day I’m not going back.
I’m not a music snob…at all…but I guess you have to be to go in…they should put a disclaimer on the door.
I guess you haven’t seen or read High Fidelity. You got off lucky!
I have seen the movie…thats what it felt like! Except this is the real world…and I’m not an audiofile.
They should just have an approved list of acceptable bands to request. All others dont waste their time.
To Grace – Thats exactly what I did! Amazon all the way…and they don’t judge.
Here’s a thought. Instead of trashing a small business that is trying to survive the recession and offer independent music in our community, why not complain to the management? You are, of course, correct that you SHOULD have been treated courteously. But I guess I’m uncomfortable with your approach, here. These small businesses live and die on their reputations, and somebody is trying to make a living in that space.
Somebody made a mistake. Do you want that person fired? Would you want to be fired for making a mistake? Did you complain to the management, or just here?
Amen, sister Diane, amen.
“Did you complain to the management, or just here?”
From his description, the person he was upset with was management, or more specifically, the owner.
Diane’s point is still valid. Complain in person, not anonymously.
Agreed.
I get your point, Diane, but I don’t know if it’s reasonable to expect all disgruntled customers to complain directly to management. Customers, like store employees, are people too. This may make me a weirdo, but I get intimated by the idea of having a conversation with a manager, especially one who may not listen to or respond to my needs (have had that happy). Plus, sometimes I’m afraid the manager will think I am trying to ask for something in return for my complaint. Or sometimes it is just faster to either ignore the situation or type a pithy paragraph online. So sue me.
Agreed – whenever I complain in a restaurant (which is rare!) the manager comes around with a free dessert or coupon or something — it’s awkward. What I wanted was to convey to the manager that there is a problem that needs attention, not that I wanted a free, giant banana pudding…
I have also had this experience and it just makes me all the more grateful for (gasp) Amazon.
Well, Im going to end my little tyrade with this…my experience was not good, that being said, don’t let that discourage anyone from going. Just had to get it off my chest. Sounds to me like most people have had a pretty good time there so keep it up! I suppose I would feel differently if everyone bitched with me.
I don’t think anyone should receive bad service just because they have bad taste (sorry, that’s my opinion; I despise that kind of music), but I think it is possible his reaction was not a judgment but evidence of distraction or a bad day.
see…that to me is the irritating thing…music taste should be irrelevant…I may like that, and Bach, and Nails, 311, Dave Matthews, Violent Femmes and the Stones…shouldn’t matter to the folks owning the business. Who cares? It should not matter!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
as an outside observer you can have an opinion…as a store owner, you should be happy to sell anything to anyone.
and…for the business they should just be pleasant!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! That’s my point.
A big box retailer can’t stock every artist who ever wrote a song much less a small indie store. Stores sell what their customers buy. Not the other way around.
My point is it shouldnt matter wheather you are buying one artest over another, its wheather or not you can be a pleasant sales person.
Why does his first responce have to be negative?
Whats your taste in music?
OK, let’s be careful not to veer into the realm of personal attacks here. I deleted another of your recent comments.
One of the key differences of the passionate independent retailer vs. the apathetic big box employee is that they’re going to have opinions about their trades. That’s going to run the gamut of 20 minute side conversations on little-known up-and-coming artists to less passionate directions to the top 100 artist on Star 94 (in this particular case).
Also, your original juxtaposition to Intown Ace is an interesting one, because when it comes to hardware, a critical comment from a knowledgeable employee about that tool in your hand is often quite welcome. Not so at the CD shop. Why is that?
Was it one of my comments? dont remember…
Intown ace would offer a suggestion of a better tool would they not? If I asked for a particular paint, that as it turns out was awful, would they snub their nose and tell me to go to Target to get it or help me? Offer an alternative?
THERE is the difference!!!
DecaturCD did NOT offer help, but instead chose to turn their nose up to me.
and are they not “judging a book by its cover” by assuming my music taste by one cd?
It all comes back to my inital point…why…why could he not have been pleasant in the first place??? Why the attitude?
I am an avid record collector and I have to say, this is one you are just going to have to get over. Record stores are notorious for being pretentious. Is it right? I don’t know, but it is something that will not change and now that you know, you can choose to go in or not. You didn’t experience a bad store or owner/employee, you have just been introduced to the world of independent music stores. Welcome….
Please read the comment policy Marker.
I asked you not to make personal attacks. Other subsequent comments I’ve since deleted did not follow this stated rule of the site, so I guess I’ll have to put you under moderation.
You ask for respect from Decatur CD, while not respecting the rules of this site. What gives?
Yeah, I had a feeling DM would be on you for that, Marker.
cue: Knowing Me, Knowing You…
My husband, who NEVER engages in blogging must have invaded my cyberspace and saw the threat on Decatur CD. He wants me to post that he completely disagrees with any critical comments about the store. That’s his idea of a positive comment–a negative comment about a negative comment!
If you want to be snarky about this comment, take it up with him. I’m just the messenger.
I’m the first this week. I’d like to invite everyone to come out tomorrow morning to help work in the Decatur High School Community Garden (if it doesn’t rain, hard.)
Get your exercise and see how the community, led by a senior project, has transformed a kudzu-choked lot into a thriving community garden. We have all the tools you need.
We’ll start at about 8 a.m. and end at 11 or whenever it gets too hot.
Can’t make it Saturday? Email to get on the mailing list for future work days.
Interested in having a plot at the garden. Email Diane and find out what’s involved.
So is CSD not offering camps during our week-long breaks? Does anyone know what the Decatur Rec is offering? I know LSOS has a camp but there are only 20 slots. What is everyone doing with their kids during these weeks (other than those who have stay-at-home parents or are taking their kids on vacations)?
there was information that came home in our thursday communication folders yesterday. be on the lookout for something…different camps…half day…full day options. there seemed to be a bunch of stuff to choose from.
i mean “stuff from which to choose”…shame on me for ending my FFAF with a preposition!
After an overzealous editor attempted to rearrange one of Winston Churchill’s sentences to avoid ending it in a preposition, the Prime Minister scribbled a single sentence in reply: “This is the sort of bloody nonsense up with which I will not put.”
See http://grammar.quickanddirtytips.com/ending-prepositions.aspx
Bravo!
I have found grammar references that claim the rule of not ending a sentence with a preposition is not hard and fast. But I’ve never seen a good explanation of how to decide. I guess there’s still room for judgment even in grammar, as the Churchill quote so nicely demonstrates.
hmmm. self correcting for ending a sentence with a preposition? How about we start with:
A) Proper capitalization?
B) Run on sentences
C) misuse / over use of ellipses and in place of commas or semicolons
the list goes on….
ouch.
…teasing…sorry…. thought it would come across funnier.
Hmmm, I looked through all my kids’ folders last night and I didn’t see anything. Was it Dec Rec opportunities or something through the school?
Thanks.
The link to sheet sent home in packets yesterday is here : http://beactivedecatur.wordpress.com/2010/08/13/fall-break-camps/
The Decatur Rec stuff came home in one of our folders. The opportunities look awesome to me. Unfortunately, it came out so close to the break and we have to arrange our work lives so far ahead that we’ve already taken leave and planned a low budget local trip. As much as I love Decatur Rec and CSD, they are not always good at promoting their programs far enough ahead to garner the market. But I accept that because I know that they are better at the public service side of education than they are at the “business model” and that’s ok with me.
You can find a full listing of fall break camp options including those offered through the City’s Children & Youth Services program and those being offered by other organizations in the city. Here’s the link http://www.decaturga.com/client_resources/cgs/citysvcs/rec/cys/cover.pdf.
Okay, obviously I’m not the only one who didn’t go to the CSD board meeting this week, since no one here has brought this up: http://www.decaturnewsonline.com/news/article_8f00f884-a689-11df-8525-001cc4c03286.html
Oh, darn. I know for a fact that the Calendar Committee recommended that there be an evaluation of how the calendar goes this year to be used in decisions for the following years. Calendar Committee: Please chime in. I’m trying not to “beat up” CSD Admin but why isn’t the Calendar Committee recommendation being followed?
On a positive note, I am so proud of CSD for not raising class sizes. I believe that class size and teacher quality are two of the most important influenceable factors in student performance. I hope they preserve these two at all costs.
My DHS student is in one class with 37 students, with not enough desks for everyone to have a seat.
Buckle your seatbelts, it’s going to be a bumpy redistricting!
Here’s a buried nugget about “the upcoming process to convert Glennwood Academy a K-3 school. Opening a new school means that some changes will be made to attendance zones. Dr. Edwards said that most of the children will be pulled from Winnona Park Elementary and Clairemont Elementary, although some may be pulled from Oakhurst Elementary. She expects that the zones will be set by October so that affected families can be advised and plan. There will be two public hearings on the topic prior to that.”
They’re going to redistrict in the next two months? Sounds like they’ve got their minds already made up.
Hopefully the relevant SLTs and/or the System Charter Leadership Team are in the loop and actively included in the process. As for me, I’m putting my fingers in my ears and going “La, la, la, la, la” as long as I can in the hope that this goes so smoothly that it’s over before I even notice.
I am glad that families that will be moving schools will have some time to plan and get psyched.
Well, of course! I am sure most everyone who isn’t in obviously easy walking distance of Glennwood and/or in the old Glennwood Elementary zone who gets redistricted is going to be very upset. No one likes change, especially when that change involves forcing your children to leave an established great school for an unknown new school.
I don’t know CSD’s plans, but I agree that they probably don’t involve giving the community unlimited opportunities for input and allowing a few upset parents to redraw the zones suggested by the GSU study.
Also, I’m predicting some folks who don’t even have affected kids will be raising hell (possibly using false pretenses like ‘the bus route don’t make sense’) because of potential harm to property values.
Never a dull moment in CSD!
The school bus routes/schedules in this city DON’T make sense. When my son was attending Oakhurst, he would have had to get on the bus a full hour before school, ride to Glennwood, transfer to another bus, when OAKHURST IS A FIVE-MINUTE walk away, less than a mile. Needless to say, we walked. He did ride the bus home from Glennwood, though.
A major obstacle to kids taking their version of mass transit to school (the bus!) is how early the buses come. Not all kids live near enough to school to walk and/or their parents may not be able to walk/bike with them. However, the convoluted routes are great for little boys fascinated with buses and other big vehicles. I know of at least one who was willing to get up at 6 AM to leave for the bus stop at 6:45 AM just for the exciting ride! Got to school at 7:25 AM after visiting Glennwood along the way and could either eat a second breakfast or watch the janitor–also exciting activities–until school started at 8 AM. And the long ride gives the parent who has to meet the bus a little more time on their own!
But all in all, our bus routes do not encourage kids to use the bus instead of car drop off and pick up.
I hadn’t heard anything about whether Decatur applied or received any stimulus funds for roads/sidewalks repair; and not sure if they even control it – maybe it’s Dekalb Co.
Some of the roads/sidewalks around are in bad shape. anyone know anything?
Some of the roads? I guess you must have found one, somewhere, that is in good shape.
Seriously, I manage to be surprised almost every day how bad they are. And most of it seems to be due to Ga Power ripping them up them “patching” them back together.
Speaking of this…why is the intersection of Ponce and Fairview (next to Taqueria) perpetually under construction?
If it’s not GA Power, it’s Comcast digging up the corners of that intersection for a couple of minutes before filling them back in again. It happens like once a month!
It is a neighborhood conspiracy to stop people from driving on Fairview and parking in front of our houses. We have county water and sewer lined up for next month and then AT&T. ( I don’t know how to do those smiley face icons – if I did I’d put one here )
Lots of sidewalk work going on along Memorail Dr. just south of COD. Decorative streetlights and the whole deal.
If the right lane on Church Street (across from Glenlake Park) is going to be closed to traffic and used for parking spaces that are rarely used, the city should:
1) put up a few more signs indicating that the lane ends in 25 ft.
2) and more of those orange pylons that have been mowed down by drivers, because of the lack “THIS LANE ENDS” warning signs.
Why is that lane closed for parking?
Weren’t several parking spaces added in the Glenlake Park renovation?
Can that lane be opened again?
Everyday I drive to work, and when I get to that bottleneck, I expect to see a 10 car pile up. 50% of the cars make a desperate last minute attempt to swerve into the left lane of Church St.
Nice and dangerous! Thanks!
Scott!!! Put down the gun!!! It’s not worth it!!!
It ain’t me, babe. No, no, no, it ain’t me, babe…
Whew!!! Thank goodness!!! :0)
Of course it wasn’t that Scott. That Scott explains the traffic advantages of two lanes on Church Street to us in clear, methodical, non-jargon terms. And addresses the safety issues as well.
Booyah!
I had to replace a wheel thanks to clipping one of the southernmost reflector bumps on Church recently. Expensive mistake.
If that 50%(and probably the other 50 too) would slow down then the “lane ends” signs wouldn’t come up so quickly.
So who wants to join me in showing a little love for our neighbor to the east? Avondale Estates is hosting the 32nd annual Labor Day 5K and 1M races on…you guessed it…Labor Day. Go to http://www.avondaleestates.org/laborday.html
Oh, and happy Friday the 13th, everyone.
There’s a terrific opportunity for folks to help out on a greenspace project right in the heart of Decatur Heights! We’re at the start of creating a special neighborhood Park & Community Garden on the land belonging to our wonderful The Church at Decatur Heights neighbors (735 Sycamore Drive.)
“Pitch In” Saturdays weekly from 8am-noon (On really hot days it’s early in/early out.) Stop by when you can & please bring tools, gloves, yard bags/twine. Weeds to pull & stuff to pick up now. Dirt & building activities ahead! Come share ideas & get to know your neighbors!
(NED- The Northeast Decatur Growing Community where the focus is on bringing neighbors together, along with growing flowers & veggies. All ages & skill levels welcome! Meets the 2nd Tuesday of each month @ 7pm at The Church at Decatur Heights. For info: http://www.nedgc.com.)
I strongly encourage you not to frequent the Marathon Station at East College and Commerce/South Columbia. My wife returned home upset earlier this week because the man behind the counter made a few very inappropriate comments. These comments, sexist and crude in nature, were uncalled for and downright offensive.
We will not be going back to the store – for little items or for gas. I encourage you to do the same.
If you do decide to go, please be careful.
Bummer! That’s my go-to beer & gas stop.
Anyone else going to Dragoncon?
Would love to, but at $80 per ticket, it’s too much for me.
But the opening parade is always awesome. It’s a tradition for me and my children to attend. Yeah, it’s a total geek-out, but we love it. Last year’s parade featured a near-perfect likeness of Humongous (and his battlewagon) from “The Road Warrior.”. Now THAT was entertaining.
We loved the parade! I took my oldest son last year and if we were not leaving town for Labor Day this year, we’d absolutely go back. I loved all the Harry Potter characters, while all the Star Wars characters (especially the storm troopers in kilts) were his favorites. My son is young enough, too, that riding MARTA is part of the fun. This event is definitely some of the best free entertainment ever!
Thinking about it! Want to! But tickets are so expensive… $100 for the weekend pp. We went last year and bought a single-day pass – but the line took 4 or 5 hours to get through, no joke. It was like you had to prove your worthiness to go through pure suffering. So IMO, buying a single-day pass is not an option because of the torture of the line process, but buying a weekend pass is really more expensive than I can deal with for this, so I have been waffling about it for weeks…. the parade, however, is both free and spectacular – would not miss that for the world.
Never been before but this year we’ll be at the parade with camera in hand! Can’t wait!
I know this is pretty random, but…
I HATE Texas Hold ‘Em. Doesn’t any bar worth the name do 3 Card Poker tournaments…? Marley? Twain’s? Somebody, ANYBODY…
Just back from a year in China, and I’m looking for a Mandarin-speaking playgroup for my 20-month-old daughter. Anybody know anybody who might be interested?
This message was recently posted on the Oakhurst listserve. Sounds like they are looking for kids a little older than yours, but maybe they will make an exception or point you in the direction of another playgroup for the younger kids:
Looking for interested families who have a child(ren) 3-5 years old who
speaks Mandarin and would like to participate in a weekly playgroup.
Requirements: one parent who speaks some Mandarin and/or the child is
already in a program that teaches Mandarin. Currently there are 5 children,
both girls and boys, who actively participate weekly. We meet on Sundays for
about an hour, rotate between homes, most families live within the Perimeter
and East of 85. We will regroup starting in September. If interested, please
contact me via email . Thanks!
Thanks!

Anyone know who to contact about getting the deed to your property? I paid off my mortgage 5 months ago and have not received it in the mail or any letters saying what to do…
First, your mortgage company should furnish you with a satisfied note, which should cancel out the surety deed. You should already have a warranty deed. Both of the above should be on file at the County Clerk’s office.
Knowing how many of our Decatur neighbors are Y members, I thought you might like to know that the parking lot crime continues at the Clairemont location.
Yesterday ~9:45 AM two cars were vandalized and some of their contents stolen, despite being well obscured from passerbys.
Who knew that criminals were so ambitious early in the morning? Gee, I’m barely moving by then!
My real concern though is when will this go from property crime something more aggressive? Or maybe it has and we just haven’t heard about it? From what I understand (from a onlooker) is that the staff didn’t seem to be too interested or worried.
“despite being well obscured from passerbys”
That may be part of the problem.
I looked on crimereports.com and there are no such incidents in the past 14 days. Are these things being reported to the police?
The Y has had security issues for years–they’ve tried on and off to monitor the parking lots with guards, and it seems this is an “off” time for them. I am wondering if the comment “obscured” meant that the items were hidden in the car …and still were stolen. I can’t understand why they can’t get a handle on this problem, since it is not like the Y is in a “bad” neighborhood where thugs roam freely. Security cameras should be the answer perhaps? I
“it is not like the Y is in a “bad” neighborhood where thugs roam freely.”
I agree, and I think it is more a matter of being on a busy road with easy ingress and egress. I doubt that cameras would be much of a deterrent (look at all the stores that get held up despite them). Do they have security guard(s) at this Y?
Sorry, scratch that question about security guards. You said they sometimes do sometimes don’t.
The fact that it is not a “bad” neighborhood probably makes it all the more appealing to theives. Where are people more likely to a) have things worth stealing, like ipods/gps/etc and b) more likely to have their guard down (because they’re in a “good” neighborhood)?
Whats a good park for kids?…outside Decatur in the Atlanta Midtown area? Looking for new ideas…
Thanks!
The one in Candler Park isn’t bad. There’s a cute little park off of Ponce near Paideia that has unusual playground structures that my kids adore.
There’s a couple of cool play spaces in Piedmont Park, and some great playgrounds inside the Atlanta Botanical Garden.
Cool, I’ll have to check that out…we went to Piedmont today, I’ve of course been there many times, but never in search of a playground, so it was a new experience.
I’m kinda thinking Candler Park, among other small parks, may be easier to park and get to…
Thanks!!
John Howell Park in Virginia-Highland may fit the bill:
http://www.atlanta-midtown.com/nonprofit/howellpark/
I think the park is at Springdale and Ponce….look south of Ponce to the road that runs parallel to Ponce. On street parking is nearby. It’s a cool little park.
There’s also a little park tucked off of McLendon a couple of blocks away from Candler Park. I guess it would be considered Lake Claire. You almost can’t see it from the road, but it’s in there.
Another fun thing to do outside of school hours is to walk around in the Fernbank Forest behind the Fernbank Science Center (not the big museum, the science center across from Fernbank Elementary). There’s a beautiful forest back there.
We just visited the playground at PDK airport, off Clairmont Road (north of Pchtree Ind). Playground structures were fun, easy viewing of airplanes taking off and landing, and the air traffic controller conversations are piped onto the playground. Extra bonus – two bathrooms and a covered picnic pavilion. I don’t think it’s widely known – friends of ours tipped us off to it.
A small rant: twice in the past week, I have had unfortunate encounters with dog poop while at the playground (two different playgrounds, actually). It’s bad enough when dog owners don’t scoop the poop off the sidewalk, but not doing so at the playground is disgusting and anti-social. Perhaps these are wild dogs or the coyotes everyone keeps seeing, but if it’s your dog, for Pete’s sake, please scoop the poop before some inquisitive toddler tries to eat it!
