Decatur High Featured in 1951 Issue of “Southern Coach & Athlete”

Retired DHS coach Eddie Fowlkes stopped by my room this afternoon. He found a 1951 copy of the Southern Coach and Athlete magazine that featured Decatur High School. The article described our sports history, like the 1947 state track championship and that the 1950 football team had seven players that made the National Honor Society, as well as information on extracurriculars such as the May Day program at Girls High.
Thanks to Chris’ close-up photos, you can read the full text of the feature article after the jump. Lots of great pics too. Make sure to check out the pic of the Girls High School building.

Can you start a separate “history” page that links all these sorts of articles together or is that just a a pain?
I like this idea. Would there be one main History page included in the navigation up top with sub-pages for decade increments or something to that effect?
Even tags would work
Eddie Fowlkes is a city treasure. You should tell your readers about all the work he did at the highschool to build cases and display all the memorabilia from Dectur’s athletic history.
That is most unfortunate that the cover happened to have a dookie.on it.
If I were Dick Groat, I’d go by Richard or Rich.
