Chef Julia LeRoy Eyeing Decatur
Decatur Metro | July 7, 2010
According to Atlanta Magazine’s Covered Dish blog, former Bookhouse Pub chef Julia Leroy is planning to open “a chef-inspired, Southern-themed restaurant” ’round these parts…
LeRoy has a vision for a fifty-seat, upscale, Southern spot—inspired by restaurants like St. John’s in Chattanooga—called LeRoy’s Lunch and Dinner. The lunch and dinner menus will change daily based on the availability of locally sourced provender. She has narrowed her search to locations in Avondale Estates and Decatur Square and hopes to be open within the next eight months. She’s already selected her color palette: cream and turquoise.
Thanks to Mike for pointing out this post!

Cream and turquoise? Sounds more like an unincorporated DeKalb color palette than a Decatur color palette.
In case it’s not obvious, I’m very much kidding. I think that’s great news. I wish her all the best.
And Julia, if you’re still looking and you read this, there’ an empty building at the intersection of W College and Mead in foreclosure. I don’t know if its an appropriate space, but there’s a sign out front saying the bank has to sell it.
Also, NAVO the church is gone, so the whole damn shopping center on East Lake is there for conversion. You could have a 500 seat cafe there
Ooooh. Would the former NAVO site be a good place for a school administration? It’s on the southside which is politically correct, plenty of room for big offices, plenty of parking so visitors don’t have to park on a lawn which was reseeded and outfitted with an expensive sprinkler system, walkable to lunchtime eating, easily walkable to Oakhurst, College Heights, and Fifth Avenue, even Renfroe.
FREE WESTCHESTER
Soon! Before the huge lawn and field is totally destroyed by “off-street” parking!
how is the southside politically correct vs a different compass heading?
RE: “Cream and turquoise? Sounds more like an unincorporated DeKalb color palette than a Decatur color palette.” Nailed it. The sign outside my unincorporated-Dekalb office building is, in fact, cream and turquoise to match the interior design of the building.
Still, I enjoyed Julia’s menu at Bookhouse so much that II could deal with an office-park color scheme in her new place.
I was completely kidding. I was mimicking the tone of the very specific complaints that pop up here about restaurants.
When is avocado green coming back?
i really like(d) the food at Bookhouse too, can’t wait. For the uninitiated, several great veggie options on the menu always got this meat eaters’ order. great and delicious combos.
