Earth Hour is Upon Us
Decatur Metro | March 25, 2010If you’re standing on the MARTA plaza Saturday night and suddenly those towering “Beacons of Teal” go dark, do not fear. It’s not the Apocalypse.
It’s just Earth Hour!
Over on The Decatur Minute, Cheryl details the city’s plans…
The City of Decatur is participating in Earth Hour on Saturday, March 27 from 8:30 until 9:30 pm. Cities and states across the country are joining together to raise awareness and demonstrate our nation’s commitment to fighting climate change by joining Earth Hour. The City of Decatur will turn off the lights in City Hall as well as on the MARTA Plaza to show support for this global initiative.
Businesses: anyone have plans the public should be aware of? Residents: what do you do when you unplug during Earth Hour?

Going to a friend’s house for dinner. At 8:30, we’ll turn out the lights, light a few candles, and have several cocktails!
Hopefully, all will be in bed, sound asleep, and I won’t even have to notice that the lights are out. But since that would be unrealistic….this will be a great excuse to turn off the lights and yell “GET TO BED RIGHT NOW LIKE I TOLD YOU 30 MINUTES AGO! THE EARTH POLICE ARE WATCHING!!!
This will only be a success if it’s not the Apocalypse, the world does not end AND those “Beacons of Teal” STAY OFF!
Sit on the porch and drink wine. Since the wine probably came from Argentina or Australia or somewhere and incurred a large carbon cost, I don’t know if my Earth Hour is very saintly, but it sure is fun!
That’s kind of a personal question, DM.
