Cheryl at the Decatur Minute writes…
The community is invited to join the Decatur City Commission for the annual State of the City Address delivered by Mayor Floyd and the State of the Schools Address delivered by Decatur Board of Education chair Valarie Wilson on Tuesday, January 26th at the monthly meeting of the Decatur Business Association. The reception begins at 5:15 pm and the program begins at 6 pm. The meeting will be held at the new Decatur High School Auditorium in downtown Decatur.
YES! Sorry, I’m sure it had nothing to do with me, but I’m really excited to see the new auditorium being used in one of the ways I had publicly hoped.
Thanks for posting NIck. I think everyone will enjoy the new auditorium.
Would love to organize a community drum circle fundraiser for Haiti on Monday February 1, the same day the Decatur local businesses are raising funds. I’m thinking it would draw crowds as well. What do you think? If not on Monday maybe Friday night or Saturday the 29th or 30th?
Would love to hear back from you.
Thanks
Amy Jackson
How is this different from the “State of the Schools” address given by Dr. Edwards in December?
Let’s just sub in Peggy Merris in for Floyd.
Who needs elected officials in this town anyway?
So I guess you don’t vote in City elections, Harry?
I think Harry was being sarcastic Steve.
Maybe, but sometimes you can’t tell in this venue.
How to identify a sar-chasm online?
Definately being sarcastic.
Sorry I misread you, Harry, but some lurkers on this blog would have been serious with that remark.
Kudos to Bill Floyd and Valarie Wilson (and the DBA) for doing this event jointly and in a public venue. (No kudos for you, DM, for not letting them both share the headline. But I like you, anyway.)
I had them both in the headline, but it got too darn long.
You try to figure out how to write a headline that includes both “State of the City” and “State of the Schools” succinctly in the title.
Wilson and Floyd to deliver State of School & City addresses Tomorrow Night.
Floyd and Wilson to State Respective States.
Boo on the public venue! Boo!
Actually, I’m really looking forward to seeing the space, but am quite discouraged that there won’t be alcohol available like there was at the Holiday Inn. (It’s almost like going to a concert where there’s no booze.)
“Don’t drive angry!”
Daren,
Resssured, we have you covered. The DBA and Eddies Attic have arranged for a post meeting gathering at the Attic. All in attendance at the DBA meeting can get a voucher to have their first drink paid for at Eddie’s tonight.
Mayor Floyd, is there any chance I could get a transcript ahead of time so I can figure out the best moment to stand up and yell “You lie!”?
I kid because I care.
