Decatur Is Looking For Volunteer Board Members
Decatur Metro | December 7, 2009I saw this in the Decatur Focus over the weekend, but the AJC beat me to it…
Decatur residents are needed to serve on two volunteer boards in the city.
The Decatur Development Authority and the city’s Planning Commission both need members to help with their duties. Each commission meets once a month at Decatur City Hall.
For more information, visit www.decaturga.com and click on resident boards and commissions under the city government services. Residents should complete a statement of interest form and send it to the City Manager’s office at City Hall on North McDonough Street.
I heard the city turned down applications from local downtown business owners for DDA because they thought they had “conflicts”. If true, I would hope the city would reconsider – no one is more vested in the success of downtown than individual, local business owners.
I’m interested in where you heard that, because local businesses are the constituency of the DDA,
I’m interested, too, because without more information, it’s a troubling comment. An unattributed allegation–what help is that?
You heard–from whom?
The city–who, exactly? And when?
local applicants–again, who?
conflicts–any specifics?
I detest that kind of inflammatory post, if you’ve got something to share, let’s hear it.
I’d like to know where that rumor got started as well. I staff the DDA and we haven’t had an opening in several years. We currently have one opening but no interviews have been scheduled to date. The DDA was created as a result of state enabling legislation that requires a majority of the DDA board members either own downtown property or have a business interest in the downtown district.
Okay, I’m not nearly as snarky in person as I am on threads. So maybe my voice can help.
I just faxed in my ‘statement of interest.’ I’ll let you know what comes of it.
So if you are selected, you are officially my minion and must direct the DDA to do my will…..
