Mayor Floyd Decides Against Governor Bid

    Decatur Metro | June 25, 2009

    First on DM…

A couple days back, Jerry tipped me off to news that Mayor Floyd had decided not to run for governor, but asked that I get Bill’s blessing before posting.  Two days after accepting the presidency at GMA, Bill was good enough to provide me with a little detail on why he decided against running for the state’s highest office.

I have decided not to run for governor, but for several reasons and not just who is in the race. Most are personal reasons ranging from 1. I like what I’m doing now 2. business – to – really personal reasons. All being said if I really had the “fire in the belly” I would run regardless of who else is running. One other small reason is, having to raise $10+ million dollars, not an easy task for anyone in this climate. So I am looking forward to continuing in the job the voters of Decatur have given me and doing the best job I can. I hope to get to know all the candidates for Gov and Lt Gov and make a wise choice about who to support.

The ultimate question is – why leave a pleasant city that almost always overperforms to run a state that so desperately underperfoms?

Burning desite to move our national education ranking from high forties to middle forties?
Just can’t get enough of those exciting budget deficits?
Been dying to pave that northern arc for the environmentally insensitive suburbanites?
Got a great idea for another new state flag from the DHS art classses?
Not enough Republicans in Decatur to provide common sense and balanced viewpoints? (sorry, that’s a real one I stuck in for fun.)
Great way to meet sexy Argentineans ?

Bill Floyd would probably be a refreshing change in the governor’s mansion, but really – why would someone actually WANT to be governor?

That is incredibly funny that you put those two questions together: so the common sense to leave your state without a governor? Or the balanced, family-oriented viewpoints of a rich fan of Argentina?
        Ha ha, ho, ho hhmm.

The point was to illustrate pitfalls of the office rather than pratfalls. ;-)
But I’m conservative, not without humor, not without a sense of irony.

For what it’s worth, I believe Governor Sanford deserves whatever retribution comes his way for his behavior. That’s what sets men of honor apart (regardless of political philosophy) taking respnsibility for their mistakes/misbehavior. We’ll see….

I find it very amusing that right away he goes to his backup–the bible, starts quoting it, brings it up all the time, and even compares himself to David–I am David, king of South Carolina!
I was commenting on the humorous structure of your post, cheers!

I wish the mayor would hop the fence and run for mayor of Atlanta instead. All the current mayoral candidates over there are substandard (to put it nicely) and Floyd has a proven record of performance. Probably a pipe dream, but hey..its nice to dream…
