“Elect Kyle Williams” Website Goes Live
Decatur Metro | June 10, 2009Kyle Williams just sent out a note announcing that his official city commission run website, ElectKyleWilliams.com, is now up and running. The site features a 3 1/2 minute YouTube video of Williams detailing his campaign platform, a bio, and ways that you can follow and contribute to his campaign to be District 2′s new city commissioner.
Read Kyle’s note to supporters after the jump.
P.S. Carl beat Kyle to sending me his press release.

Ah, nothing as exciting as following a political campaign on twitter…
Ride to the sound of the trumpets, Kyle … onward!
“This campaign is about you. I want to hear from–that is, uh [looks over shoulder] before I GET HIT BY THIS TR–.”
Ew.
Funny, I just noticed that. Posing for the camera on a level crossing!
It’s a well-framed photo–if only the camera could have been a little to the left it would be fine. He would have had the tree to his right with a little space–which says he likes the green space thing–and the tracks would have been on his left–which would say he was for development, commerce. As a whole then he would have come across as being for sensible commerce, development and retaining green space. I’m just saying.
This has got to be Photoshopped (the lighting effect doesn’t even match)… But of all the possible backgrounds why a railroad track? Just looks to me like he’s sitting there waiting to get hit by a train…
Good luck, Kyle – anybody who steps up for an “office” these days needs to be encouraged.
I don’t think it’s photoshopped — the flash just looks like it popped and it will only illuminate the foreground.
Yeah, it looks like a delayed flash.
Still doesn’t explain why he’s trespassing on a railroad track.
It might be legally accurate but “Trespassing” seems like an awfully loaded word. By my observation their of daily use (living along them) — dog walking, jogging, just taking the most direct path to where you want to go — the RR right of way serves as a big linear park and one of the city’s most popular green spaces.
I see it more like the vacant intercity lot turned into a garden. Sure, somebody somewhere owns it but the true sense of ownership is defined by its users.
There are literally hundreds of trespassers killed every year on railroad right-of-way, even more than are killed in train/car crossing collisions. The railroad is not a linear park, it is private property. The true sense of ownership is no more defined by use than if you come onto my property to play with your dog. I think the courts hold legal ownership far above sense of ownership.
As I mentioned, Steve, your legal take is correct. I wasn’t referring to how the tracks should or shouldn’t be used; only to how they actually are.
Yep, but wait until a kid gets hit on the track crossing from Renfroe with our city police/crossing guard within 20 yards at the intersection of Howard and Commerce.
YIKES!
The alternative is CSX, who owns the property, to put up those ugly fences to prevent access, and I don’t think anyone wants that to happen.
Right on, SJ. Safety education is key. We don’t think twice about teaching our children the proper way to cross a street (many, if not most, of which are infinitely more dangerous than the tracks). There’s no reason we can’t add proper RR safety to our parental agenda.
I know I did.
Who is this whippersnapper Kyle Williams? Was he in diapers when I moved to Decatur a quarter century ago? He looks a bit Hollywood to me.
In addition to being good-looking, Kyle Williams is good-working. Kyle has served on Decatur’s planning commission for the past few years, hosts annual drives for books and art supplies for Decatur City Schools, and has delivered such quality community involvement that he earned the respect of Mayor Emeritus Elizabeth Wilson – she is serving as his campaign chair. Kyle has also honed his leadership skills as the former Chairperson of Georgia Equality. Finally, with his land use law practice knowledge, Kyle also brings serious chops to the discussion on development guidance in Decatur.
While the value of old timers is true, Decatur has such a burgeoning young professionals influx that it may be time for the younger generation to have the opportunity to provide a direct voice in our city government.
This man will stand in front of a train for the people of Decatur. He throws caution to the wind. Establishment be damned. You may be asking, “where is his necktie?” The answer? He’s used it to blindfold Sonny Perdue, who is tied up at his feet. Hell, he may not even have pants on for all we know. He’s literally mooning the oncoming train. Who can say what he’ll do next? All I know is, he has my vote.
Next? He’s faster than a speeding bullet, followed by a tall building.
