Barnes is Back
Decatur Metro | June 3, 2009Jim Galloway reports this morning that former governor Roy Barnes will enter the 2010 governor’s race and I’m not sure how I feel about it.
I find myself wondering, is there no one else?
I guess fighting over the incorporation of Dunwoody wasn’t as fulfilling as holding the state’s highest office. Who’d thunk it?
I feel great about it. I worked with Roy Barnes for six months after he left office the first time (and he is still a volunteer for my organization) and I think he is a man of great character and conviction. I will be thrilled to bits when it’s official.
Not that he will win, but he is the only Democrat who has a chance against a Republican. The bench is that weak.
Andisheh gives his cleverly worded thoughts on Barnes over at Fresh Loaf.
Hmmm. I pretty much agree with Andisheh’s take. A personal experience with Mr. Barnes left me with a bad taste in my mouth, and with much-diminished respect for him. Whittled down to his barest essence, he’s simply another politician, who will say whatever he deems necessary to aggrandize himself in the eyes of the too-easily-fooled voting public. I certainly hope the Democrats can, and will, come up with better.
