UPDATE: The Duany lecture has been canceled.  See this more recent post for more details.

On Thursday April 16th, New Urbanist extraordinare, Andres Duany, will open his three day SmartCode workshop in Decatur with a free talk about Smart Growth principles from 5:30p-8p at Holy Trinity Parish (515 E. Ponce de Leon Ave).

A book signing will follow the event.

The Top Wedding Spot In Atlanta

Decatur Metro | March 18, 2009

A post on “Associated Content”, ranks our Old Courthouse as the #1 spot in the metro area to have a summer wedding, beating out Callanwolde, Paris on Ponce, the Inn at Serenbe, and the Sweetwater Brewery.

But this ranker seems to be just one person’s opinion, not based on any sort of broad-based opinion poll or ranker created from a bunch of random qualifiers.

So, whatcha think?  Is the Old Courthouse the top locale for a summer ATL wedding?

And no, you can’t have the reception in “Quizno’s Plaza.”

Little Shop Bookseller Terra McVoy Prepares For Book Launch

Decatur Metro | March 18, 2009

And Daren Wang of the Decatur Book Festival predicts McVoy’s “Pure” is going to be big.

Over on Simon and Schuster’s website McVoy does  a Q&A and answers the question “How did you come to write “Pure?”

A. I had been wanting to write a book about what it’s like trying to navigate all the trials and tribulations of ordinary high school drama, plus trying to stay true to one’s faith, when my editor made me aware of purity rings. Immediately I got a sense of PURE’s storyline, and was so excited that I started writing the first chapter immediately. The opening sentence is pretty much exact from the first draft!

Daren tells me The Little Shop book launch of “Pure” will be on April 17th.  I think the pic above says “7:30pm”.
