    Harmony Park Canteen

    Decatur Metro | February 6, 2009

Carl thinks this concept of chef Todd Richards’ is probably looking to open in the old Calavino’s space…

The crew is working on a new project in which we are gathering funding. The restaurant is named harmony park canteen. Our plan is to place it in the Oakhurst community of Decatur Georgia (still Atlanta metro area). Harmony park is a small plate venue w/ great food and spirits.

…In this plan we are also starting a farm named Bluefoot Inner City Fruit and Vegetable Patch. The organic farm will supply this project and another acquisition (confidential agreement, can’t name names) with most of the produce. All produce not used will be sold at farmer’s market and/or donated to inner city schools. Some have asked where has this idea come from? I can not take credit for it. I found inspiration in my good buddy Sean Brock. Here is a link to his site (http://www.seanbrock.wordpress.com/).

    Menu can be found here.

Sounds good!  Always love the local concept.

Has anyone looked at his website? What does “lavation” mean in this sense? I looked it up and it means to cleanse or wash. “Please join us for supper and lavation” — huh??

Maybe they meant “libations”? Unless they have special finger bowls for that extra touch of service.

…or maybe to drum up business they are performing footwashings…or maybe bidets in the john? That would certainly make them OO-NIQUE!

Sounds like a great concept and will be welcome in the neighborhood. However, if they are going into the Calavino’s space they are going to need to totally gut the interior of that place and make it brand new.

It can’t have any association with any of the other failed restaurants in that space over the years which I belive led to much of the failure associated with those restaurants. They cannot just spit, polish and paint the place and make it work. If they do, I don’t care how good the concept or how good the food, it will fail.

Hey, how about a little farmers market on Harmony Park? I think that would make a great addition.

DecaturGuy….I am in total agreement and have been harping on that in previous posts. Spend some money, make it new.

AHHHMEN! I have lived in Oakhurst since the Heaping Bowl and Brew days and I think the only way to lift the curse on that space besides demolition is a complete revamp. After the ritualistic cleansing of bad jousjous of course.

Definitely need to burn a sage stick and push out the negative vibes.

      A cleansing is in order.

My husband heard today that a new tavern with an emphasis on food is opening at the old Scottish Rite in the empty galleries next to Palate. Could this be to what they are referring?? I actually hope not as it would be good to have both spaces filled.

Maybe I had one to many libations when I wrote my blog post.
We will not be opening in the former C space. We are still looking for a place but that space doesn’t suit our needs.
Our searches are in EAV, C-Town, R-Town, Inman Park, Grant Park and Decatur.
I will keep an update on my blog.
After 12 hours today I’m off to wash my feet…
      thanks
      Todd Richards
