Illegal Campaigning By Stan Watson Supporters Reported
Decatur Metro | July 15, 2008Rusty writes in that Stan Watson supporters broke the 150 feet rule at the Sycamore Place polling station when they drove by with a bull horn this morning shouting their support for the ever-absent DeKalb CEO candidate.
Wow…not only technically illegal, but also REALLY effective. I always take my advice from people screaming at me from passing cars. “Go to hell!” Done. “Bikes don’t belong on the road!” You got it sir! “Vote Stan Watson!” Good enough for me!
Stan Watson de-faced my mailbox with his street spam campaign sticker, so this violation sounds like more of the same from him.
Vote: Anyone but Stan…
We should hold an impromptu party when he loses.

I admit to being against Stan Watson solely because I saw a Humvee parked outside the DeKalb County courthouse that was plastered with big campaign magnets and stickers. If he or one of his big-time supporters think Humvees are acceptable transportation these days, then we haven’t got much in common.
I know, right? They were late too, because I’d already voted by then.
I received a direct mail solicitation from Mr. Watson’s campaign YESTERDAY (on Election Day). I like how it said, “Early Voting Begins July 7.” Sheer brilliance.
Carl, that may not be Stan’s work. More likely, it’s our fine Decatur Post Office, which, IMHO, is notorious for delivering bulk mail extremely late.
Regarding the mailbox defacing, it is a crime to deface a mailbox under federal code. I posted details on this subject on my neighborhood web site for the benefit of my community. If you report it and document it, the USPS Inspectors will follow-up. The piece includes links to the form to report the violation:
Yep! It’s Mail Fraud All Right!

Grr … Newman!
When Burrell Ellis as CEO starts returning all the favors he owes to the developers in his pocket – You will wish you had a man like Stan Watson running your county. The buildings and homes will go up quicker than you can build schools – then you will have traffic problems, over-crowded schools and not to mention a poorly staffed police department with leftover rejects because the good guys are leaving due to lack of support. Good luck with Ellis. Enjoy.
………and don’t forget about the seniors….Ellis has NO PLAN for seniors. Come on guys, don’t base your vote on a truck and some literature. Do your homework…ask questions. Stan is rough around the edges but he stands for what’s right. He doesn’t have the funds to run a polished campaign, his money comes from regular people who are struggling….not lawyers and developers like SEMBLER. Do you homework!
Hey K, I would love more details on all the developers in Ellis’ pocket. Do some of my “homework” for me.
Regardless, don’t developers naturally flock to the front runner? Giving them cash in hopes of softening them up later on?
What’s weird is I’m just about to post about Sembler’s donations to Ellis for his campaign. But I think that’s more a reflection of Sembler’s intentions than Ellis’.
Developers aren’t partisan. They hedge their bets contribution-wise on both sides of the political spectrum. This just happens to be one of those instances where the red side is kind of Where’s Waldo so it’s easier to identify the front-runner.
And let’s not fool ourselves into thinking developers are the only ones who make political contributions in the hopes of a favor or two down the line…
