The Voidz, Idles, Fat Dog: Discover This Week’s Ultimate Playlist!

By Tyler Jenkins

The Voidz, Idles, Fat Dog… sont dans la playlist de la semaine !

Featuring Yves Tumor and Nina Cristante, as well as Feu! Chatterton.

As we hit August 1st, we find ourselves midway through summer, typically a quieter time for music releases. However, our weekly playlist is far from empty, thanks to a few artists who seem to have gotten the memo to keep the new tunes flowing. Among them are The Voidz, who unexpectedly dropped an EP titled MęĞż øF rÅm. From this EP, we select Unholy Lover, the lead track with its steady drum machines, autotuned vocals, and welcomed layers of synthetic sounds.

For a blend of music that’s equally eclectic but more organic, we turn to Yves Tumor, in collaboration with Nina Cristante – vocalist from Bar Italia. The pair presents We Don’t Count, a single released through Warp Records that serves as a retort to critics who often accuse Nina of affectation and singing off-key. Doubtless, the vocals are confident, nuanced, and richly textured in this post-punk colored song.

Speaking of post-punk, the leaders of its resurgence, Idles, are gearing up for their big screen debut by releasing Rabbit Run, one of the tracks set to feature in Darren Aronofsky’s upcoming film, Caught Stealing (translated to Pris au piège in French). The British band has recorded the soundtrack, and this track is the first of four written for the film. Composed by seasoned soundtrack artist Rob Simonsen, it marks the release of the remaining three tracks, scheduled for the same day as the film’s release on August 27.

For another dose of punk energy, listen to Pray to That, the new track by Fat Dog. Nearly a year after their long-awaited debut album Woof. – and following Peace Song, a single released last November – London’s most electrifying band delivers another powerful blast that promises future performances just as dynamic.

On the French scene, Feu! Chatterton makes a comeback with the stunning Mille Vagues – a track that heralds, following Allons voir, the band’s fourth full-length chapter, four years after Palais d’argile. With his distinctive voice, Arthur Teboul delivers a lyric rich with melancholic poetry: “Just days ago/Hard to believe/You’re gone/Unlucky evening/Damn chance/Well, that’s how it is/Life is abrupt/Especially when it departs”. Their upcoming album, Labyrinthe, is set for release on September 12.
