Houqua Tea Room Opening Below Saba in Emory Village

    Decatur Metro | December 1, 2010

What Now Atlanta? reports that a new spot called “Houqua Tea Room” is opening in Saba’s basement in Emory Village.  As for details, here’s all the What Now folks could find out…

Staff at Saba say the restaurant will offer “fine teas from around the world,” in a coffeehouse type setting with wireless. The owner is difficult to reach and there is virtually no information available online.

    Saba Leaves Square for Oakhurst

    Decatur Metro | March 26, 2009

    Nittany313 reports…

Walked past Saba on the square on Tuesday night and was surprised to find it closed. Sign on the door said that they were moving to Oakhurst- 350 Mead Rd. I know that they had changed lunch/brunch times recently but the restaurant always seemed packed in the evenings. Any idea what the scoop is on the move and whether or not they will be open at all in the interim?

Now we know what’s taking over the old Calavino’s space.

Anybody have answers for Nittany?  (These questions are in the wheelhouse of a few of our frequent commenters.)

Big Discounts at Four Decatur Restaurants

    Decatur Metro | December 12, 2008

Thinking about trying Parker’s on Ponce?  Well you might want to head over to Restaurant.com first and pick up a gift certificate or two and pay less than half price!  (Excludes alcohol)

Saba, Natalie’s and Amaryn’s Thai Bowl also have similar deals currently.

And if you see Carl while you’re out there enjoying dinner at a discount, say “Thank You!” since he was the one that point this out. :-)

UPDATE: In my haste I forgot this additional tidbit from Carl: “Use discount code “online” (without the quotes) for 70% off.”

$5 Valet Parking on the Square

    Decatur Metro | October 15, 2008

Over at The Decatur Minute, Catherine notes the new valet parking being offered on Friday and Saturday nights at the top of the N. McDonough loop on the Square.  For $5, you can avoid the hassle of trolling for metered parking and just let a valet hoof it to/from the DeKalb County Courthouse lot for you.

The idea is the brainchild of Saba, but obviously anyone can use it.  I think everyone (the city included) is interested to see if the idea of paying $5 to park (not including tip) will catch on.  If so, it will be a great solution to filling up that empty deck!

Rue de Leon Closing, Birdi's Looking to Get Out

    Decatur Metro | May 23, 2008

Per the all-knowing Carl over at InDecatur…

Rue de Leon is closing on June 15th, while Birdi’s owner wants to get the heck out of Dodge and “move to the mountains”.

Carl also points out that RockIt Boutique opens “officially” this weekend. We saw this a couple weeks back before I went overseas, but never got around to posting it, because I had no real info or a link for it. I think its in the old record store space on the pedestrian-only portion of Sycamore. Not positive its that exact location though.

Also he notes that Saba (love the awning) and Tastings are opening this coming week.

This humble blogger has been invited to the the Tastings soft-opening party tomorrow night, so hopefully I’ll have some pics for those of you who have yet to see the amazing renovations they’ve undertaken at the old Tropical Smoothie location.
