Resident Reports Armed Burglaries in Katie Kerr Neighborhood

    Decatur Metro | January 29, 2011 | 10:20 am

A resident in the Katie Kerr neighborhood – just east of the Decatur city limits (map) – sent in an alert from a friend noting that a house in the neighborhood had recently been robbed by armed gunman.  She described the burglars as “pros”, as they had a lookout man and a female driver waiting on-hand in a “older model gold Saturn” acting as a getaway car.  According to the report, “the same people hit a house in other [nearby] cul-de-sac last week.”

I don’t have an easy contact at DeKalb PD, so this report is unsubstantiated, but I have no reason to believe its untrue and thought that all area residents should be on the look out for this particular vehicle cruising through their neighborhood.

    Pin-Ups Owner Shot and Killed

    Decatur Metro | September 7, 2010 | 3:09 pm

UPDATE: The AJC reports that the owner of Pin-Ups Terry Stephenson was killed.

    Oakhurst Mom writes in…

Any info on what’s going down at Pin-Ups on Ponce? Was just coming home from the Farmer’s Mkt & there were a ton of police, police vans & the entire parking lot was roped off with crime scene tape.

Yep.  The AJC tweeted moments ago…

Shooting, possible fatal, at Pinups east of Decatur. Story soon.

And the paper just put up this post saying that details are still sketchy.

    Stay tuned.

    Decatur, DeKalb…What’s the Diff?

    Decatur Metro | January 18, 2010 | 2:55 pm

I guess its a “power of words” sorta day.

In yet another documented instance of Atlanta news orgs referring to incorporated DeKalb as “Decatur”, thanks to a Decatur mailing address, the AJC first reported this DeKalb motel shooting as “Decatur motel shooting victim now in critical condition”, according to Andisheh.

Not the first time this has happened.

The location was reported as Decatur. An hour later, it’s changed to DeKalb without any note.

As we’ve noted before, it might not matter to most, but countless shootings and other illicit acts reported as “Decatur” but really in DeKalb, aren’t all that great for the city’s image.

Maybe a specialized “Decatur: We’re incorporated!” ad campaign would help.

Suspected East Lake Road Burglar Arrested

    Decatur Metro | January 13, 2010 | 10:19 am

    Good news!  The AJC reports…

A man who could be responsible for 20 burglaries along East Lake Road near Ponce de Leon Avenue turned himself in Tuesday morning, DeKalb County police said.

Todd Leslie Thomas, 42, is charged with a November 2009 break-in on Ridgecrest Road. Additional charges may follow, police said.

Thanks to Diane for pointing out this blurb.
