Resident Reports Armed Burglaries in Katie Kerr Neighborhood

    Decatur Metro | January 29, 2011 | 10:20 am

A resident in the Katie Kerr neighborhood – just east of the Decatur city limits (map) – sent in an alert from a friend noting that a house in the neighborhood had recently been robbed by armed gunman.  She described the burglars as “pros”, as they had a lookout man and a female driver waiting on-hand in a “older model gold Saturn” acting as a getaway car.  According to the report, “the same people hit a house in other [nearby] cul-de-sac last week.”

I don’t have an easy contact at DeKalb PD, so this report is unsubstantiated, but I have no reason to believe its untrue and thought that all area residents should be on the look out for this particular vehicle cruising through their neighborhood.

I know someone in that neighborhood who reports the same. According to her, the neighborhood got hit multiple times earlier in 2010, then quiet until last week with 2-3 break-ins. The other break ins were while residents were away, with the front door kicked in; she didn’t have details on the armed robbery.

This sounds like the same description for the ones who robbed and ransacked my friend’s house on 2nd Ave back in late October.

Just a note about the difference between a burglary and a robbery… A burglary is a property crime and occurs when no one is home while a robbery is a crime against a person and thus there must be a person present for it to be called a robbery.

My guess it that these were burglaries, not robberies.

Related topic — on Saturday afternoon I saw four Decatur PD cars speeding down Garden Lane with lights on but sirens off (stealth mode). Neighbors speculated there may have been a burglary in progress, but no one knew for sure. Does anyone have hard information on this?
