Storms Bring Down Trees Across Decatur
Decatur Metro | July 7, 2013Yesterday’s storms seem to have done a number on large trees around the city. Jane sent in the pic above of emergency vehicles responding to trees down across Avery Street late yesterday.
Eric sends in this pic of a tree that fell across Mimosa Drive yesterday, adding “This monster fell last night, taking down the cable, phone and power lines. We lost power for only 6 hours, which was really impressive given the complete loss of a transformer. GA Power really came through for us. No people or property were hurt.”
Fallen Tree Damage at the Solarium in Oakhurst
Decatur Metro | June 22, 2011UPDATE: Another pic – this time from Gary – of the damage outside of Snap Fitness in Oakhurst. Multiple cars under trees. Decatur commissioner Patti Garrett says that word is that these trees will be cut up tomorrow.
Kathy sent in a couple pics of the damage from trees down at the Solarium in Oakhurst. One more after the jump.
Large Tree Limb Falls Across Nelson Ferry Road
Decatur Metro | August 13, 2010This large tree limb fell at the corner of Nelson Ferry and Coventry Road yesterday afternoon, closing the intersection for a couple hours. Luckily the limb fell into the street and avoided hitting any vehicles.
In true Decatur style, Assistant City Manager of Public Works David Junger was on the scene, along with a number of firefighters who blocked off the street with some “Warm Zone” yellow tape.
The above pic is mine. But Meridith also sent in a few pics of the action a little later on when the branch was cut up. Check ‘em out after the jump!

Decatur Metro | April 13, 2009OMG…
SpiketheCat posted this jaw-dropping pic from the MAK District on Twitter.
My best to the owners. I just hope no one was home and everyone is OK.
Wow. I’m really impressed the tree didn’t fall completely thru the house.
