It’s typically dependent on where it lands, not where it originates. If it lands in your yard, you pay to clean up. If it lands in the public ROW, the city deals with it.

Interesting question. In a meeting with the city regarding the installation of sidewalks in the neighborhood, the city was quick to point out that they already own the property and that the right-of-way is wider than the pavement. Someone then asked why the city wasn’t responsible for maintaining their land. Though they didn’t use these terms, the city’s answer was basically that we were all indentured servants – they own the property but it is the homeowner’s obligation to maintain it, at the homeowner’s expense.

Didn’t come through for us. What was supposed to be a four hour outage Saturday took almost 12 to get fixed. And there weren’t any trees or lines down around us.

If a tree in the easement between the sidewalk and the street falls, who is responsible for cleanup, the city or the homeowner?

It fell at 2:40 AM when all were safe and sound in their beds. Thank goodness.
