DM’s use of the word “sordid” was acceptable. That usage does reflect an opinion about the restaurant’s history. Still, the history as presented by Kessler contrasted changes in ownership with the sentimental relationship that patrons have with their chosen breakfast places. To the sentimental patron, the trading of ownership, the manipulation of menus, and in the end, the mistreatment of employees by the recent owners, would seem base.

I know Crescent Moon fairly well, and I certainly wouldn’t
apply any of the above to it’s “history.” While the ownership
from Rob to Rob/Lou was highly problematic, I think even
they escape sordid, at least from what I know.

Can’t sordid be used to mean unsavory? As I recall, that pretty much defines how it went down.
