P. Diddy Trial Update: Capricorn Clark to Testify Following Cassie, Kid Cudi

Procès de P. Diddy : Après Cassie et Kid Cudi, c’est au tour de Capricorn Clark de témoigner

A former assistant of hip-hop mogul Sean “Diddy” Combs, currently on trial in New York for sex trafficking and running a criminal enterprise, testified on Tuesday about the threats, violence, and atmosphere of suspicion that surrounded the rapper and producer.

Capricorn Clark stands as the most significant employee from the artist and businessman’s camp to testify at the behest of the prosecution thus far. The prosecutors aim to convince the jury that P. Diddy leveraged his empire to facilitate a trafficking ring where women were forced to engage in sexual acts with other men who were paid to fulfill his desires. A dominant figure in the hip-hop scene for the past three decades, P. Diddy, also known as Diddy or Puff Daddy, is additionally charged with leading a criminal enterprise involving acts of violence, kidnapping, or bribery.

In front of the jury and the accused, Capricorn Clark revisited an incident from late 2011, previously discussed during the trial, where P. Diddy discovered that his then-girlfriend, singer Cassie, was having a romantic affair with rapper Kid Cudi. “We’re going to kill him,” Diddy reportedly said in a fit of rage, armed with a firearm, forcing her to accompany him. This account of P. Diddy’s angry outburst supports earlier testimonies given by Cassie and Kid Cudi at the trial. Last week, Kid Cudi described finding his Porsche ablaze in January 2012, an act he suspects the rapper of orchestrating, although it is denied by him.

Lie Detector Tests

More than just a fit of jealousy, this episode is significant to the prosecution as they consider Cassie a victim of the sex trafficking allegedly directed by P. Diddy. During the first week of the trial, the singer detailed the sexual marathons, called “freak-offs,” during which she was forced to offer her body, under the influence of drugs, to other men who were paid, all for the rapper’s filmed pleasure.

The defense does not deny that he was violent towards the singer but attempts to portray a relationship where infidelity and jealousy were mutual, and the sexuality was completely unrestrained.

Visibly emotional during her testimony, Capricorn Clark recalled having to undergo a lie detector test for five days because P. Diddy suspected her of stealing his jewelry. Another employee had previously mentioned having to undergo similar tests.

She also spoke about the threats she allegedly received from Sean Combs and testified to witnessing an episode of violence against Cassie. “With every kick, she curled up more and more into the fetal position,” she stated.

Third Week of Testimonies

The defense sought to cast doubt on her timeline of events and her credibility, asking why she had stayed with P. Diddy for years if he was so violent. She responded that it was impossible to find work elsewhere, until she finally left. The trial, now in its third week of testimonies, is scheduled to conclude in early July according to the initial timeline.

P. Diddy, who is attending the trial in custody, faces life imprisonment if found guilty.
