Unveiling a New Collection: “Power to the People”

Set for release on October 10th through Universal Music Group, “Power to the People” is an expansive collection featuring 90 previously unreleased tracks. This treasure trove offers a glimpse into the early American years of John Lennon and Yoko Ono in New York City.

The box set, spanning 12 discs, includes a variety of unique content such as demos, home recordings, and jam sessions. It also features a remixed version of their 1972 album “Some Time in New York City,” along with live recordings from their “One To One” concerts at Madison Square Garden in the same year.

In the preface of the collection, Yoko Ono reflects on the significance of the “One To One” concert, highlighting its alignment with their deeply held beliefs in using rock music as a vehicle for peace and enlightenment. She notes that this event was the last concert she performed with John, emphasizing the powerful message of peace they aimed to convey. Yoko poignantly concludes her thoughts with the words: “Imagine peace. Peace is power. Power to the people!”

The anthology not only showcases the musical ensembles Lennon and Ono were part of, such as Elephant’s Memory and Invisible Strings, but also features appearances by notable artists like Frank Zappa and the Mothers, David Peel and the Lower East Side, and Phil Ochs. The production of this comprehensive set was overseen by their son, Sean Ono Lennon, ensuring that the cultural legacy of his parents is preserved and celebrated for years to come.
