Drawing inspiration from the Costa Rican philosophy of “pura vida,” which emphasizes a simple and balanced life connected with nature, this home is designed to harmoniously integrate with its aquatic environment.

The residence replaces an old houseboat and rests on a newly installed reinforced concrete float that ensures stability and houses modern utilities for plumbing and electrical connections. Constructed at Dyna’s Ballard shipyard, the home was then precisely moved to its current location, highlighting the meticulous nature of building on water.

The Pura Vida Floating Home boasts 1,780 square feet of interior space, complemented by an 820-square-foot rooftop deck. Its straightforward rectangular shape optimizes the available space, and extensive glass walls on the main floor blur the lines between inside and outdoor spaces on three sides, offering panoramic views of the bay’s dynamic landscapes—from morning sunrises on Lake Washington to the bustling marine traffic of Lake Union.
