Up Studio designs Hamptons home to support aging in place and well-being

Set into a wooded, irregular parcel in the Hamptons, Victory Lap Residence is a 7,000-square-foot house created by The Up Studio, which also handled the interior architectural design. A striking steeply pitched roof soars over the main communal area, effectively expanding the second-floor volume while keeping the overall footprint compliant with local zoning limits.

The homeowners are an active couple planning to remain in the house as they age, and the program prioritized generous entertaining spaces for family, friends and community events. The principal bedroom is located on the ground level alongside the kitchen, dining and living areas, plus a dedicated wellness wing. Concentrating daily living areas on a single floor also allows the residence to easily support full-time elder care in the future. Above, a guest suite and two private workspaces provide a quieter refuge, each with terraces that look out over the surrounding trees and pool.

The design team sited the house with care to retain as many mature trees on the property as possible. A rear wing tracks the sun’s path across the site, with glass doors that open to outdoor zones that feel protected yet remain visually and physically tied to the landscape. Covered dining and seating areas extend the living space outdoors. The wellness amenities blur the line between inside and out, featuring a pool, hot tub, outdoor shower and a gym designed to open to the grounds throughout the year.

Brava siding is used across the exterior, wrapping the facades and continuing up into the roof gables so a single cladding carries from walls into the pitched roof. Throughout the home, finishes are chosen for their natural character and low maintenance, and the color scheme remains in warm, soft neutrals.

Eddie Lee Inc. developed the interiors around a palette of warm woods, stone surfaces and muted tones. The kitchen, intended for both everyday use and larger family gatherings, pairs flat-front wood cabinetry with warm stone countertops and oak flooring. The dining room is finished with wallpaper in organic, nature-inspired patterns.

Although substantial in scale, Victory Lap was conceived to feel cozy for two people while still accommodating bigger groups. The outcome is a residence that supports the couple’s present lifestyle while remaining adaptable to changing needs.
