False Bomb Threat Called In to Phoenix School
Decatur Metro | August 2, 2013A busy day for DPD. Again from Sgt. Ross…
On 08/02/13 at approximately 12:11 pm, Decatur Police responded to a false public alarm (bomb threat) at the Phoenix School on East Lake Drive. The location was evacuated and searched by Decatur Officers and Marta Police K-9 units. No suspicious items were located. The incident is being turned over to the criminal investigations division.

Somebody called in and said they planted a false bomb? That seems pointless.
Kind of like a hot water heater.
Toddlers trying to get out of naptime?
This is a really serious issue. Few things give one the ability to control a large group of people with so little effort, and the use of fear via a bomb threat is one of them.
I hope, when they catch this ba$tard, they throw the entire weight of the justice system at him/her.
Pretty much the definition of cowardice. Truly pathetic.
For some this venue is just an avenue for juvenile humor. Wanna-bes at the Punchline. I like being a regular reader of Decatur Metro but there are some days I just want to run away to another source of info.
Y’all are right. Stupid thing to joke about. Sorry for trying to make light. Punchy Friday I guess.
+1 and thanks.
Agree that this was a serious and criminal act and better not joked about.
Humor will always diffuse an issue–some ARE more sensitive than others, but that still does not change the need for lightening tension. I’m positive no one would crack jokes if there actually was an incident. We can all read DM’s posts–we don’t have to read the comments.
no. when someone’s mailbox got shot up with bullets around midway (does that count as a real incident?), i made a comment that all the jokes were kinda insensitive. luckily, you were there to tell me i didn’t have a sense of humor. since then i have been looking for a wacky avatar to announce that i too indeed have a sense of humor, but alas i continue to fail.
And Ad Hominem arguments still don’t make good logic.
If there actually was an incident? You really typed this? Does it take the bomb being found or worse yet exploding to be in your mind an actual incident? The teacher who replied only mildly expressed the trauma of what happened but I call it real and definitely an actual incident not worthy of diffusing with failed attempts at jokes.
Yes, I can choose what to read, any or all. Thanks for reminding me. Duh.
No one in their right mind would think a situation like this is funny during it–I was referring to relieving the extreme tension one feels after. Thank goodness it was just a threat–a prank and great job on the part of teachers and administrators. Afterwards, however, it doesn’t make sense to jump on people for slightly humorous comments on a local blog.
We didnt think this was funny. How dare this coward make threats against innocent children. As a staff member at this school it was the scariest thing I have experience in the 24 years as being a teacher. But we put all our fears and aside and got those babies out of the school. Some without even eating and otherson their way to nap. Thank God it was false.
As much as this freaked me out, I had no doubt that the Phoenix teachers kept their cool and took care of the kids, because that is what they always do. The years pass by but we are always grateful for your role in our lives. I hope you all got some great peace and quiet over the weekend and that this never happens again.
Thanks Sharpie. You have to be a past Phoenix school parent to know that we took care of these children and made sure they were safe.
