Decatur-Based Brewery Three Taverns Brewery Secures Funding
Decatur Metro | June 22, 2012Three Taverns Brewery, which is located at East Decatur Station, was giving out (delicious) free samples of two beers at last night’s Pop Up Art event last night.
In addition to two delicious offerings, the big news of the night was the Three Taverns had just secured funding to move forward with their build out plans. According to their website…
After 10 months of presenting our vision for Atlanta’s newest production brewery, after many nights of sharing our beer and stories of Georgia’s possible brewing future to prospective investors, after batch after batch of test brews, after 4 years of tireless research and planning, we have finally achieved our goal and are now fully funded to begin the intensive work of building our dream. Be prepared for updates as we move forward with our build-out plans.
And if you haven’t had a chance to taste Three Taverns yet and you’re wondering if these guys are the real deal, check out this quote on their website from Brick Store’s Dave Blanchard…
Brian and his team are going about building a brewery the right way. Every detail of planning is well thought out and the beers are outstanding. Three Taverns will be the first “local” brewery to open in Atlanta since SweetWater 15 years ago. Everyone I deal with wants to support local. Local and sustainable is here to stay. Selling as much beer as they can make, Three Taverns will be the new darling of the beer scene, giving Atlantans something fresh and exciting to support.”
+1 on the tastiness. Really great stuff and Brian and co. should be proud. Now someone please tell me that they’ll find a way to funnel that new cash into a Decatur-based brewery. I know Wild Heaven claims Decatur as home but I think it’s only right that the beer town of the south (south of Asheville, at least) should have at least one production brewery in residence. Don’t grow up and leave home!
I was under the impression that Wild Heaven would be opening a brewery in Avondale. Is that still going forward?
It is, though I’m not sure what their schedule is. I think they’re amassing financing but I’m sure someone else has more confirmed info.
Where will Brewery be located?
I had a sample of the IPA last night and thought it was great. The man who gave me my sample, who I assume was the brewer, told me they have plans to open their brewery in a nearby location that is within walking distance of East Decatur Station. So I imagine that would be in Decatur or Avondale or unincorporated Dekalb by YDFM. He said that the lease hadn’t been signed yet so he didn’t want to build up expectations before it was finalized.
Just had their IPA last night at East Decatur Station, and it was super yummy!! Congrats guys, wishing you all the best!
Does anyone know if their IPA is available as a growler anywhere?
Unfortunately, they can’t legally sell their beer yet, so the only way to get a growler fill is if they give it away.
Sucks for them but fine by me. When and where can I get my growlers filled for free?!?
Congrats to Brian and Co. They have something really special going on.
The IPA was great, but the other beer (I think they called it a Belgian Singel?) was also surprisingly flavorful for a light beer.
Thanks to Decatur Metro and all the well wishers for such glowing reviews of our beer. These are our finished launch recipes that have been in the works over many brewing sessions over a few years now. One is called Single Intent, a Belgian-style single ale at 5.5% and the other is A Night In Brussels IPA, an American/Belgian-style IPA that is more American in its hop character with a sublte Belgian finish from the yeast. Or as we like to say, an American IPA on a Belgian road trip.
We anticipate completing the design and build out of our DECATUR brewery and launching these beers into the local market in 9-12 months. We will be packaging in kegs and bottles from the beginning. Please look for updates on our progress via our website, facebook and twitter feeds. And occasionally you might learn of a new sampling event where we’ll be pouring our beer.
Can’t wait to share our vision for beer and brewing with you in 2013. Thanks to all who came out and sampled our beer. Transcendo Mediocris!
Although I haven’t tried them, I’m sure the brews will be great. What I’m hoping is that Brian et al. have also included in their plans a tasting area and hopefully something similar to what Sweetwater has where they can have an area for Friday (at least) happy hour, bands to play, etc. I’ve been to Sweetwater several times for that, but it’s quite a drive away from Decatur. Would be nice to have a good brewery within stumbling distance (hopefully). If it’s not in the plans, then maybe a Kickstarter campaign?? If a doughnut shop can raise a bunch of money in a short amount of time, imagine what a brewery could raise from in and around Decatur….
[...] come. And the next morning surprised us with a glowing review of our beers and brewery vision at; http://www.decaturmetro.com/2012/06/22/decatur-based-brewery-three-taverns-brewery-secures-funding/#… Thanks to all who came out and helped make the Big Pop Up a success for all the artists on display. Good, good, good. Three Taverns plus Wild Heaven. Now if someone will please step forward with the growler delivery service…
