Three Taverns Releases 3-Day Session IPA for Decatur Arts Festival

    Decatur Metro | May 25, 2016 | 11:10 am

    3dayipa

This year’s Decatur Arts Festival has quite a varied and interesting lineup this year!  If you haven’t spent anytime checking out the weekend’s offerings yet – and were just going to wing it (aka wander the artist’s market aimlessly) – you should definitely do some research HERE.

Here’s one such interesting twist on the longest-running of all current Decatur festivals – it’s own beer!

Decatur’s Three Taverns Brewery has brewed a session IPA called “3 Day IPA” for this year’s event.  As Nathan at Three Taverns noted to me in an email ” This is the first time a beer has been brewed specifically for a (non beer-related) Decatur festival. It’s something we’re very excited about.”

I actually snagged a growler of 3-Day over the weekend at Ale Yeah! and I will tell you that it’s a very solid offering.  It’s light and flavorful.  I’d describe it as displaying sweet, biscuity malts, semi-dankish hops and a dry finish.  But I’m just an amateur beer connoisseur with a limited beer-cabulary, so I’m likely doing a terrible job of describing it.

Either way, I’d definitely recommend purchasing a pint when you’re up on the Square this weekend.  And if IPAs are your game, don’t fear.  The other beer sponsors at this years event are Creature Comforts and Burnt Hickory, so you’ll likely be awash in a spectrum of solid beer opinions.

    Cheers!

Details on Three Taverns Take Over of Sweetwater Space at Atlanta Airport

    Decatur Metro | July 7, 2015 | 10:13 am

Oh hey, Atlanta Hartsfield-Jackson airport. #concourseA

A photo posted by Three Taverns Brewery (@threetaverns) on Jul 1, 2015 at 9:16am PDT

Three Taverns posted the above picture on Instagram last week.  It was quickly revealed that Three Taverns Brewery had taken over Sweetwater’s location in Concourse A at Hartsfield-Jackson Airport.

Yesterday, Creative Loafing followed up with Decatur resident and Three Taverns CEO Brian Purcell about the decision.

Apparently it all started with a tap at Varasano’s Pizzeria’s airport location a couple years back.  Night in Brussels did well there, so it opened up a larger distribution at the world’s busiest airport.

It’s quite an interesting read.  You learn how the airport location came to be, why Three Taverns’ airport tavern will still sell Bud Light, How “Night on Ponce” already makes up 50% of Three Taverns’ sales (!) and more.

The Big Pop Up! Festival returns to East Decatur Station June 11th

    Decatur Metro | June 4, 2015 | 5:50 pm

    10437437_468518319918427_1368241671060698763_n

I’ve always enjoyed this festival.  Annie sends along this release…

Decatur’s ‘Biggest Little Festival’ returns to East Decatur Station on Thursday, June 11, from 6-9PM. Co-sponsored by the Decatur Arts Alliance, this one-night-only-extravaganza of ART, LIVE MUSIC, FOOD TRUCKS, and BEER is a FREE event for all ages. Think outside of the Square and venture to the other side of the tracks to meet our eclectic community of visual, culinary, musical, crafty and creative artisans & merchants.

Now in it’s 4th year, The Big Pop Up! has grown to resemble a scaled-down, shorter version of the Decatur Arts Festival. Visitors can once again expect a nice variety of local art, crafts, jewelry and live music. Foodies will enjoy tasty treats from food trucks and East Decatur Station restaurants and beer lovers can visit Three Taverns Brewery, which will offer discounts on their popular tour & tastings – topped off with an exhibition of contemporary British art curated by Decatur’s own Shawn Vinson.

East Decatur Station is located on the corner of East College Ave. and New St., just a block west of the Avondale MARTA Station.  For more details, visit http://fb.com/PopUpDecatur.

What Are Your Favorite Georgia Beers?

    Decatur Metro | July 10, 2014 | 11:35 am

There are a lot of new breweries in Georgia, even in the past year. Both full-on bottlers and brewpubs. Does the old guard of Sweetwater or Terrapin still hold your allegiances or has a newbie won your affection?

If you need a list to help jog your memory, here’s BeerAdvocate’s latest brewery/brewpub list for Atlanta.
