    Glenlake Pool Closed Today

    Decatur Metro | May 26, 2012

Decatur Active Living’s Greg White writes in….

Decatur residents your safety and health are our top concerns. The Glenlake pool is closed due to filtering and equipment issues. The pool management company and the City of Decatur have been working diligently for the last 48 hours to resolve the issue as quickly as possible. In the interim please visit the two City of Decatur pools at McKoy or Ebster. We hope to have Glenlake pool open as soon as possible and will post updates.

I noticed they did not put water in the pool until two weeks ago. That is not enough time. When the City ran the pool they started in April.

        Who runs it now?

they contract it out to a group that run a bunch of pool in Atlanta Metro. I foreget the name.

Water has been in the pool since last year. Pools are not actually supposed to be drained. Pressure beneath the ground can subject an empty pool to hydrostatic float. We attempt to remove the cover and ready the pool as close to opening day as possible since an unsupervised pool is a dangerous liability.

I love the service of the pool. I love the pool! But the company used for the past two years has had very nice people working at Glenlake and very poor sanitation in the pool. At least it looks poor. The service a few years ago vacuumed and scrubbed the tiles enough that I got to know one of the people. Not for the past two years. As you remember, two years ago, the dirt was blamed on construction. Last year, the tiles were so nasty that people
complained here (and to the city) and they said it was filter trouble. Hope this year, we get nice people and a clean pool!! Can’t wait for it to open.

As soon as it opens, my family will be there. Glenlake has been our favorite family haunt during the summer for years. The kids love the pool (and the park) and it’s within walking distance of our house. Though, I have noticed in the last couple of years that the cleanliness of the pool itself has decreased. In the meantime I think we’ll probably take the kids to McKoy, but we can’t wait for Glenlake to open!

Epic fail on opening weekend. So disappointed.
Medlock doesn’t open till noon or 1pm and McKoy is tiny. We ended up going to Medlock and it was okay. Not very clean, not enough chairs and couldn’t make change. At least it wasn’t crowded.
Last year at Glenlake, if you went in the afternoon it was gross.
Hoping when Glenlake does open it will be smooth sailing the rest of the summer.

We went to Medlock and didn’t have any cleanliness issues. It’s not my fav pool for various reasons but it was more than adequate. And hey, it was open!

I understand liability concerns, but it needs to be open in time to resolve problems like this. Any word on whether it will be open today?

Yes, the pool will be open today. Enjoy!
