Dolly, a very sweet yellow lab, is missing. She has a microchip, but was not wearing her collar, and was last seen at Suburban Plaza near the bowling alley. If you see her, please contact Ben at 404-734-9819. If you know anyone in that area, please forward this to them.
J_T, DM and others,
Thank you for being ever-vigiliant for our puppies. If the day ever comes that I need help in finding one of my furry babes, you can find me in the local asylum (right after I post on DM). It’s so comforting to know our pups are well cared for by watching DM. We even had a quick lost-and-found here today. Scan the chips of mine if you ever find them, and give them an extra licks, ’cause I’m on my way.
J_T, how’s the lab/heartworm rescue? Sorry I forgot her name? And of course love to the other 2!
Penny is doing great, Lauren! It was a struggle at first because Stella is a completely alpha female and they kept getting into scrapes. But thanks to a crate donated by Village Vets and some emergency intervention by Zsolt at Frogs to Dogs, we have been able to work out the transition and we don’t even need to crate her at all now.
Medically, she got her first heartworm shots three weeks ago and will get the second (and final, hopefully!) round next week. She is on Prednisone during this treatment, which caused another problem – it makes her pee uncontrollably! After a month in the house with no accidents, she suddenly started doing it. Fortunately, we were warned that this could happen and Dr. Villines at Village Vets as been tremendous in helping us through all this. After adjusting the medications, she’s gotten to the point that she can tell when she needs to go and has learned to let us know that she needs to go out. Now. Even it’s 4:00 in the morning. And that’s just fine with me!
We would still be happy to see her adopted into a good situation by people who can give her the love and attention that she needs. However, we are realistic and we know that it’s unlikley that she’s going anywhere. That is just fine with us, too. She has definitely adopted us and we love her so much already.
Oh, and Stanley is, as always, just Stanley. I think he could put up with just about anything.
And you are absolutely right about the great service DM does, as well as the willingness of the community to help. I love Decatur!
Ha! It’s true that the week was not so bad. And, of course, talking about my dogs always puts me in a good mood. Then again, I’m going to be spending the next few hours dealing with an unreasonable insurance adjuster so watch out later! Happy hour may be needed to restore my current unusually upbeat state.
Thank you so much for sharing the update on Penny! We had a foster here (from DM: Winnona Park New Year’s Day) for several months that I grew to love, but my alpha female couldn’t handle, so I sympathize with your struggles.
The greatest thing I heard while he was here, and that you should know: You are doing amazing things taking care of her. Accidents, medical treatments, pack acceptance, etc. Please know those sweet babies appreciate you!
Please let me know if I can help! I have tons of extra collars, crates, cones (also known as ‘torture’), and petsitting if it gets to be too much for Stanley and the Queen.
Thank you so much for the offer, Lauren. I think we are set for now but we may able to take you up on the petsitting offer at some point!
And don’t worry, I do realize that Penny (as well as our “king and queen” ;-)), appreciates what we are doing for her! When Penny started having her accidents after starting the Prednizone, I knew it wasn’t really her fault but it was still pretty disconcerting and I got annoyed at having to clean up after her. Then one evening as she lay next to the couch I saw that she started peeing. Because of the other sedative she was on, she probably didn’t even realize that she had to go until she started. Once she realized it and it was too late to get outside, she turned over on her back so that the pee would get on her rather than the floor. Then she looked at me as if to say “Please don’t tell me this means I’m going back to the shelter!”
Now, in all honesty, I’d rather she just peed on the floor. Since we’ve taken up all the rugs, it’s actually easier to mop and wipe the floor than it is to wash it off her. But after seeing that, I just couldn’t get mad at her.
Reading all the lost dog threads, as well as the random comments that show up in others, it’s funny to see how how some folks become completely different people when talking about their furry companions. I’ve floated the idea of a DM happy hour in the past, and even held one to limited success, but what we really need is a DM happy hour AT THE DOG PARK! Now who’s up for that?!?
Dr. Villines is wonderful– she’s our furbabies; primary vet (but all of the folks at VV are great, really). I enjoy hearing you chat about your pups, Junderscore…confirms my suspicions that you’re a good egg.
Will keep an eye out for Dolly and hope this story has a happy ending like most DM lost pet posts!
I just received an email saying Dolly is safe in someone’s garage. Thanks to everyone for looking out for her!
Oh, so glad to hear about Dolly’s return!

You seem unusually positive and happy today. Must’ve been a good week.

Oh, I found the weak spot for J_T! I knew it!

SHHHHHHHHHH! You’ll ruin my bad reputation!
a friend of mine works for Emory Police and she had all her officers keeping an eye out for Dolly, too, so she was happy to hear she was found.
Dolly has been found!!!
