DHS Close Up Club Still Needs to Raise Money for April Trip to D.C.

    Decatur Metro | January 21, 2012

DHS teacher Chris Billingsley writes in…

We have 26 students signed up (22 at meeting). [for the April D.C. trip]  The students came up with some fundraising ideas. To help raise money for their trip, Close Up students would like to walk dogs in the afternoon and on the weekend. They also proposed a big “Spring Clean Up” (kind of like Rake&Run) for early March. Please contact Mr. Chris Billingsley (cbillingsley@csdecatur.net) for more information.

To DM readers: I happen to know several of the characters in this photo for many years and can vouch for this group being 1000% terrific. And their fearless leader, Mr. B, is something special. Decatur Patch recently featured some great photos of them doing yard work community service on MLK Day. You will be very happy if you engage their services. Plus their trip to D.C. for “Close Up” is a well-chaperoned, exciting, participatory educational event that results in them knowing more about government than the average voting adult ever dreamed of knowing. I’ll bet you could even ask for pictures when the students actually go.

As an added bonus: Any student who spends time in Close Up is going to know how to say hello politely back to grownups on the street and not run amok in restaurants! It’s the modern day version of a cotillion/manners class!
