Utility Line Across Trinity Avenue Catches Fire

    Decatur Metro | January 11, 2012

Clark sends in this pic of a “not everyday sight”.  Apparently both ends of a utility line across Trinity Avenue between Twains and Fire Station #1 caught fire on Wednesday afternoon.

Well at least the fire department didn’t have far to go.

except that station #1 is undergoing renovation so it’s temporary location is at the old roly poly place just up the road on church st….still close, though :)

Let me guess: This is Dekalb’s fault and not CoD’s.

Reason #47 for not stealing cable.

Maybe Twain’s will name a brew after this incident: Flaming Utility Line Stout?

More reason to bury power and other lines

        +1
Just imagine the asthetic improvements to Decatur if the power/cable/phone lines were buried. In addition, imagine not having the power go out as frequently with stormy, windy weather.

        A girl can dream.

I was wondering what all the commotion I heard this afternoon was about. That is not something you see everyday. At least it happened right there at a fire station and in an area where it would be quickly noticed and taken care of.

So what was the cause? Lightning? Construction hit it? Spontaneous combustion (my favorite kind)?

Actually – it probably WAS spontaneous combustion. Line overheated from passing too much current and the jacket caught fire.

Either that or paranormal activity, which is also fairly common.

Too bad there wasn’t a Wallenda to walk across it…

Well, if they could just perfect this, they could bring it back during the Holidays each year, or maybe as an addendum to the 4th…
