Small Dog Named “Heidi” Found in Oakhurst

    Decatur Metro | November 27, 2011

I’m posting this a few hours later than I should have.  Jennifer writes in…

She was found in Oakhurst – first on Fayetteville Road, Friday, 11/24. Then she wondered over to Russell Street that same day which is how we came upon her.

Her heart-shaped tag reads, “Heidi” but there is no phone, nor address. On the other side it looks like a worn out pic of Betty Boop. She appears to be just a few years old. She has on a pink collar with silver spike designs around it.

You cannot tell in the photo but she has white tips on her front feet and a white chest. She has warmed up to us – maybe because of the food we’ve given her but she has snapped at several people!

People can contact me, Jennifer at 404-408.7697. Come Sunday afternoon however, we will have to take her to the Humane Society or the pound due to upcoming travel that we have.

That dog was under my car on Friday afternoon. When I finally lured her, I tried to look at her collar to see if there was a ph # but she bit me! Be careful…..

I would suggest contacting the shelters either way if you haven’t already. They can keep her info on file in case her owners call the local shelters looking for her. Also, any vet will likely scan her for a microchip for free! (Sorry if you’ve done this stuff already…I found a lost dog this summer and it was all a learning experience for me.)

Oh she’s just scared! No need for animal control, she can stay here until her owners are found. Pesky owners get lost all the time.

DM, I’ll call Jennifer in the morning. No need for small hounds with tags to get put in a shelter. I’m not in Oakhurst, but happy to give her a good dose of these big canines, and a lot of love, until her owners are found.

Feel free to pass along my contact info as well. I can help foster her until her owners are found if needed.

Check the brown house at the corner of Fayetteville and Pharr- the brown shingled two story 1920s craftsman style. I think those people have dogs like that. Also, there is a couple with a red brick on Oakview- on the same side as Mojo and about 4 houses down- that have little dogs like that

Can someone let me know if this pup will have a home until the owners are found? I just want to make sure she doesn’t go to a pound or shelter where she could be put down. That would be the absolute worst decision.

I am happy to foster her as well.

        Angie,
No answer when I called this morning. I’m interested as well.

And as a Thanksgiving throw-back, I’m grateful for so many DM friends that are willing to house the dogs whose owners ran off. It’s truly the best part of DM for me.

That is so nice about living in Decatur….people that really want to help and do the right thing. Hopefully someone can get a hold of Jennifer to find out about sweet Heidi.
