Bad link on the incorporation article. I’d like to read that if you can fix it.
Thanks!
Fixed. Man, I gotta be more careful about these!
Wow, Toco Hills becoming its own city? That’s getting pretty granular. By the way, the shopping center is properly called “Toco Hill”, not the plural, right? What about the neighborhood? Is there more than one hill so that they can properly be called Toco Hills?
It’s like when people say “Krogers.” Drives me crazy…
We always say K. Roger’s at our house… doesn’t Kenny Rogers own it? Wouldn’t it be great if there was a store with the layout and convenience of Publix but the prices of Kroger?
Ha!
Indeed it would.
Apparently, once the incorporation ball starts rolling, there will be nothing left but residential tracts in South DeKalb with no big businesses to tax to support their infrastructure. IMHO, this is once instance where County Commissioner Rader is right and Mayor Bill Floyd is wrong. If people are unhappy with the direction of DeKalb County (and who isn’t), they need to get a CEO in there who will be responsive to their needs not dismantle the county.
Good pun on glut and gult. Dang, you are erudite, DM.
Man, it’s too obvious when I’m tired!
I liked it. I always learn something new from this blog. Today it was “gult.” A very nice word even if no one has used it since Chaucer.
The Tucker incorporation has already been shown to be financially unfeasible. However, with the recent tax hike, it might be possible. As a resident of Tucker, I am very opposed to some of the ideas I”ve heard from some memers of Tucker Civic Association. People who presumablty would be in contention for city leadership positions if incorporation were to happen.
I think that glut of reusable bags would also work for the annual Totes 2 Tots effort. Here’s a link.
http://www.facebook.com/Totes2Tots?sk=info
“Totes 2 Tots delivers new or nearly new backpacks, suitcases, duffel bags, diaper bags, and other age-appropriate bags to foster children in Georgia, many of whom must shuffle their belongings from home to home in garbage bags during frequent relocations. Kids who receive Totes bags range in age from infants to teenagers.”
I think they prefer luggage and backpacks, but surely a reusable tote would be better for the child than a garbage bag?
Townships before cities, please.
FYI… every knows that TOCO is an acronym for Top Of COunty, right? As in, TOCO Hill is the highest point in DeKalb. If not, then now you know.
RE: the bag glut… Coincidentally there will be a local showing here in Middlebury, Vermont this week on Thursday night of an award-winning documentary called “Bag It: Is your life too plastic?” in which Jeb Berrier looks at our dependence on plastic bags and the resulting damage to human health and the environment. It was produced in Telluride CO and was aired on PBS in 2011 during Earth Week. There’s a website & blog of course which explain how to host a screening: bagitmovie.com and http://bagitmovie.wordpress.com
Note to Maria – MARTA trains are now 15 minutes apart, not 8-10 like they used to be.
I don’t think 15 minutes is too long to wait for a streetcar. Just wish there WAS such a thing in operation already! If you require halving that wait time, you are going to almost double the cost of running the line.
