Why can’t we wait until after Thanksgiving to start with the Christmas decorations?

Are you sure they’re not taking down last year’s decorations?

Steve, I’ll step in so you can sit this one out.

Our city is a small fish in a big pond. The company that does our Christmas lighting installations deals with huge clients with deep pockets. By being flexible and agreeing to go a bit early, Decatur gets to pay less. It’s your local government saving tax money and all you have to do is be festive a bit longer than you were expecting to.

They could put them up even earlier and I would be okay with it. How many shopping days are left? I need to get busy, because my pockets aren’t so deep either and the earlier I start the more likely I’ll be to not buy last second expensive gifts. Where’s the best place to pick up a Chia Obama?

I heard they were giving them away at the state fair…if you let Herman Cain guess your wife’s height.

That’s reasonable. I just get burnt out on the Christmas spirit before the holiday even arrives since it seems like decorations start going up earlier and earlier each year. I thought putting up the wreaths this early was emblematic of this trend, but if it really is a cost-saving measure, then I can live with it.

I groaned when I saw them go up on Sunday, however, you give a good answer in a great way.

The wreaths look pretty bad this year. Most are flat and out of shape and some are unlit. The city should require the installation company to fluff each one after its hung. After years of storage they really need to be freshened up.
