Eye on the Street?

“Panoramic of Candler Park, the edge of the golf course closest to the playground. An elderly woman drove her car off the road, through 20 yards of cattails, and into the creek. She seemed fine, but this is another strong argument for periodic driving exams.”

I’m sure she thought she was applying the brake but hit the accelerator instead.
That’s probably right. My best friend’s mother was killed by an 83 year old man who accelerated instead of braked, crashing his car in to a storefront. This woman in Candler Park narrowly missed the playground. This issue needs to be taken seriously.
Or maybe she thought, “What the hell! I’m going off-roading. Hold my beer while I try something.”
Even more lives would be saved if we taught people how to drive properly in the first place.
Yes, yes, please bring Driver’s Ed back to the high schools. The savings from less use of the Trauma System (meager as it is) should cover it just fine. I know that teens seem to pay no attention but I still remember those gory “It could happen to you!!!” stories from our Football Coach/Driver Ed instructor. Everytime I would be tempted to crest a hill on a rural road as though I was taking off in an airplane, I’d remember the tale of the convertible full of teens that didn’t know that a slow-moving tractor was barely moving just ahead over the top of the hill…..
May I suggest a 3 wood?
yes, this calls for a driver
Too soon?
Now that I think about it, you should need a 5 or a 3/4 4 iron off that tee.
She should switch to a larger SUV so the creek won’t be a problem next time.
