Decatur Reschedules Fireworks
Decatur Metro | July 5, 2011From the Decatur Minute…
The July 4th fireworks were rained out last night. We had hoped that last rain would clear out around 9:15 but instead the lightning came and we were forced to cancel the fireworks.
Our rain date is Saturday, September 24 immediately after the last Concert on the Square at dark. The concert ends at 9:30 p.m. and the fireworks will go off some time between 9:15 and 9:30. We will put out a reminder closer to the time.
Thanks for your patience and to those of you who braved the rain up until the last minute, thanks for your support!

Thanks Decatur!
+1
More than two months later for the “rain date” for the Fourth of July Fireworks. That’s ludicrous. Just cancel them.
Oh, good grief! For one thing, they’ve likely already been bought, so why waste them by cancelling them altogether? For another, I think it’s a fitting date, since the weather will be a little cooler, there’s an event already planned, and the fireworks will likely bring out even more people for the last concert. If you’re that disappointed at having to wait 2 months, Phantom Fireworks is ready when you are– ain’t nothing stoppin’ ya!
I gotta agree with Lynn. It:s all about Chris “Ludacris” Bridges….
Dang it! Ludacris didn’t even grow up in Decatur. He was in the ATL.
It’s always been like this. When the fireworks are cancelled due to rain, they are scheduled for September sometime. I imagine it has to do with scheduling. The rest of the summer may be booked already. It’s actually fun to have Fourth of July in September–usually cooler and it’s not yet into the October-January holiday rush.
You were kidding, right?

It’s this kind of small, but proactive action by the City that makes me love living in Decatur. Not only do they pick up your wet items abandoned while fleeing the lightning and deluge, store them safely, advertise on their blog where to find them, but you can even call ahead to see if they are there to save yourself an unnecessary trip!
