Willow at Superior Water Main Break Continues to Flood Area

    Decatur Metro | April 14, 2011

Leslie sends in this incredible photo of the current state of things at the intersection of Willow Lane and Superior Ave after a water main broke yesterday (and then broke again today).  Residents in the area are again without water.  Here’s Leslie’s report…

Water was restored very briefly this afternoon and then they found a leak in the line connecting the water and the fire hydrant on the corner of Superior and Willow. This leak blew out and created a muddy pool of water in the hole, which is 15 feet deep. No one was hurt – one worker was in the hole at the time of the blow out and he managed to get out safely. They have turned the water off again and brought in a pump truck to clear the water out of the hole. Still no word as to when service will be restored.

My kids were totally awed by the spectacle and it has been a great excuse to socialize with the neighbors and the friendly, hard working fellows in DeKalb County’s Watershed Management Department. No, I’m not being sarcastic. They are really nice.

This is depressing. Another water main break. The sad part is the one on our street was fixed about a month ago but the street is still completely a disaster. If they are working on another emergency, then our street is never going to get repaired. We’ve had water problems since before Thanksgiving.

Glad you are having a positive experience with the Dekalb County WMD. Having had to deal with them several times in the Great Lakes neighborhood over the last two years, our experience has been the total opposite. Their are several admitted sewer main areas per their workers that need to be addressed but have not been due to cost involved. They strictly work in a reactionary mode.

My 60 year old toilet just alerted me that we have water!

Yes. The water began flowing again around 8:25 PM. Soon after, one of the watershed workers came to my door to ask if the water pressure was good. He also said that the water main that they were working on broke five times today!

We’ve also had good experiences with Dekalb WSM employees. They are always very nice to my kids, who adore walking and watching the big trucks do their thing. Unfortunately, we have to see them a little too often (in Medlock), but at least they are pleasant when they come.
