Where Decatur Workers Live & Where Decaturites Work
Decatur Metro | April 7, 2011An interesting map from page 42 of the 2010 Decatur Strategic Plan.
This post is in response to Smalltowngal’s question in the previous post asking how many Decatur residents work inside the city limits. Click the map above to enlarge it.
The map to the right looks a lot like my Google Analytics map of where people are logging onto DM. Atlanta, Decatur, Emory.

This is interesting and makes sense to me. Decatur has great access to downtown and Emory but poor access to other major job centers like Perimeter Center, Cobb Galleria, Buckhead, etc.
Where are these data from? A survey (sample) or a census (attempt at complete count)?
They demonstrate both that 1) common commuting patterns could be addressed by mass transportation AND 2) a substantial number of commutes require a car.
Even at this scale these maps are easy to interpret: Government and Emory/CDC/VA.
I’m in the downtown Atl blotch, but not a city, county, or state employee.
the maps are missing the city of Decatur borders. i am also curious where the data come from (e.g., 2010 census long form, survey).
It’s settled. Work should begin on the Decatur to Emory monorail at once.
