    Dog Lost, Dog Found

    Decatur Metro | November 20, 2010

Sometimes a dog can be lost and found before I can even post either alert!

This fella got loose in the Great Lakes neighborhood this morning and I received this note from his rescuer…

Apparently, we are the home of misfit/lost dogs. We have a very well trained older yellow lab that has landed at our house. He has no collar. I would love if you could post this on your website. We have wandered all around the Great Lakes neighborhood, but no one recognizes this dog. I will send photos it you will post them. Thank you!

Minutes later – after I had gone out for breakfast – I received this note from the owner…

I am a reader of your blog and could really use your help. I am out of town and just received a call from a neighbor that my dog is loose, and when the neighbor tried to grab him his collar came off. So he no longer has a tag with contact info. He was last seen in Great Lakes on Superior near Huron about 45 min ago. I’ve attached a photo. I’d really appreciate it if you could post the photo and ask people to call my wife…if they see him. I feel very helpless because I’m not there and could really use a hand. Thanks!

By the time I got home an hour later, both the owner and finder had written in that the dog had already found its way home!

He looks like a really good dog. Glad he made it home.

We were the ones who found the dog, and kept him in our front yard (which is fully fenced in) for about an hour. He then disappeared, and we didn’t know if someone came for him or he escaped. Glad to hear that it all worked out! This dog was very well behaved, and we would love to know where his home is, in the event he gets out again. And my 6 year old daughter would love to know the dog’s name.

Although he’s not my dog, I want to thank you for being so kind! :-)

        Vicki,
Our dog, Wrigley, escaped from our back yard Saturday morning. We are so thankful to you and your family for taking him in. I knocked on your door when I found him in your front yard, but you weren’t home. Thank you again for all of your help. Your daughter is welcome to visit him anytime.
Thank you so much for rescuing him!
        Emily G.

Lucky for him, he lacks the ability to comprehend decent lengths of time—so when they win the World Series, as far as he’s concerned, it’ll feel like tomorrow.

….OK, that was a long walk. Good in concept but the execution…. points for effort?
